Groce put out a nice tweet wishing Ricardo well. Super classy! Said he loved coaching him, called Ricardo a warrior. First tweet by Groce in nearly 2 months.
This and the fact that Mrs. Groce came back for Senior Day last year motivates me to root for Illinois.

They are truly invested. The entire staff asks regularly about the guys.  Love the fact that JG is still personally engaged and following the guys and felt the urge to tweet his concern. He does not tweet to very often.

Got to respect guys in the coaching ranks like Rhodes, Groce, Ku , Bacari, Ford et al that stay in the lives of the kids they recruit. Promises delivered.

OT.....I love the gifs that they generate out there.

I don't think Wingfield or Harley lose their redshirts if Rico isn't able to return quickly. I think TJ, Setty and Wilkins all see a bump in minutes. Need them all to step up.

Yeah me too.  Illinois should be ranked this week; they're 13-2 and 2-0 in the Big 10 so far.  They have a tough game.against Wisconsin next.

Lower leg has two bones, fibula and tibia. Could be a talus injury. Wait until X-rays or bone scan. If it is a fibula injury less time missed. Takes a lot of force to break tibia.

I know, right. I cannot believe I have not received the official release yet with all diagnostics and a complete report by now.

Nope

Depending on whether the team took him to a local ER or witied till the got back to Athens the initial X ray should have been taken by now.  Depending on what was seen the next step depends on whether there is a readily seen fracture on the film or not.

If not they may opt for further diagnostics to evaluate soft tissue damage.

When you are laying there as an athlete or standing beside your kid the last thing on your mind is whether the fan base is in on the goings on.

We should just plan on him being out ....with no expectations.

The staff and player will let us know what is up when they know something and feel compelled.

Do we reallly NEED to know the actual status to offer up and prayer and hope for a speedy and complete recovery? Not like we are writing a game plan or making a medical decision.

If this was 24, Jack Bauer would just now be saving us from the final terrorist threat.

You need to give more money to the obc Billy, by the time I got home today from Asheville I had received a copy of the x-rays and personal update calls from both Dr. Tesner and Dr. Ulloa.

All kidding aside folks and let's keep things in perspective.  From a personal standpoint, I've experienced a break of the same bone playing basketball at the Athens Middle School.  It was a spiral fracture and between multiple casts, a wheel chair, crutches, an electronic bone stimulator and a walking boot, the recovery time for me was 7 months.  Totally changed my perspective on sports.

Here's hoping that this one was a routine break and a good kid in his early 20's heals a little quicker than a 43 year old man (at the time, not today).  Best of luck Ricardo.

They probably opted to wait and see a professional at O'Bleness.

It's only January 5th but that may be the funniest post of the year.

The loss of Ricardo is not good news as we head for Kent on Wednesday, then host Akron.  His effort on the glass, and the energy he brings to our defense will be very difficult to replace imo.  This is a serious blow to this team.

I think it's a bigger blow to know that Ric was a good soldier for three years and when he finally gets his shot to be the man it's all over.  I feel sick for him.

Oh god. O'Bleness... My friend drove all the way up to Columbus for just a cold. But anyways is it possible that IF Rico is unable to play the rest of the year would he be able to be grey shirted?

No a grey shirt is when you delay enrollment, and is used primarily in football. Medical would be what you are thinking of and that would be unlikely since we are at the halfway part of the season, however you never know.

Ric, follow the young man from South Carolina and choose football as your future. If you have a semester remaining of eligibility, put on the pads and become a lock down corner.  Then instead of hitting the boards, jumpers and free throws, you can hit receivers and running backs and knock em out of their shoes, heck you can even come on a corner blitz and blindside an unsuspecting QB or two.  I'm sure the coaches would even let you return kicks and punts if you felt like it.

Really, your body, your speed and your jumping ability might be the ticket to a long NFL career: you have awesome athletic skills.

But either way, here's to your complete recovery.

I had a compound fracture repaired at O'Bleness in the early 1980s and had to have the arm rebroken and reset the next week in Akron.  The Akron surgeon asked if I had one of my dorm mates handle the first procedure.  I remember the doctor at O'Bleness had a streak of mud on the side of his head - he apparently had been out 4-wheeling in the holler.

Deciding between the ER at O'Bleness or someone from the Read Hall Euker Room is a real toss-up!

I hope Ric has the best and speediest recovery from this injury.  I'm in agreement with OUVan, in that it's terribly sad and unfortunate to see this happen to a kid who was taking advantage of the chance to shine as a starter his senior year.

O'Bleness has been bought out by OhioHealth now.  Hopefully with this sponsorship, they'll be able to afford better care for patients, including better physicians and equipment.  I've only had to go to O'Bleness once for a sprained ankle, and it wasn't that bad of a trip, other than the fact that I had to wait about an hour in the waiting room where it seemed like I was literally the only one there.

That gentleman was outed as a regular poster on their board. Never know who is behind the name. Great story.
