First of all, I'm not into morale victories, but kudos to the guys for hanging in and for at least a moment making it appear as though we may steal one. That was the definition of a "make-shift lineup" down the stretch and tons of strange combinations due to all the circumstances presenting themselves.
For me, I can almost look at one stat line from any box score and against a high quality opponent like Toledo, tell you how the game went. I'm certain the other teams defensive strategy had a lot to do with this, but the key stat line for me was Maurice 7 total shots in 31 minutes. I've beat this drum to death, but I don't think were beating many good teams consistently with him getting 7 shots--which by the way was the fewest shots attempted by any players other than Setty and Campbell who only played 14 combined minutes. So basically, of the 6 man rotation that played most the game, nobody shot less than he did. That's a problem. Maybe the defense took him away and there was nothing we could do about it, maybe their strategy to keep him from scoring the second time around outmatched our strategy to find new ways to get him the ball seeing as though we just played them and the game was fresh on everyone's minds. Whatever the case, they outwitted us in this regard. I've heard it said about great players, "they're going to get their's, we just want to stop everyone else," but there are simply too many times when Maurice just doesn't get his. I've seen a trend and that is, when Maurice shoots 9 or fewer times, we don't do as well. I continue to be a huge Maurice fan, as is most everyone else, and continue to live/die with him being a priority.
