USC Upstate ?

South Carolina-Upstate.  I think they're in Rock Hill, SC which is a suburb of Charlotte, NC.

Some of the high-major conference schools have turned down CBI bids in the past.  For some, it's NCAA or NIT or nothing.  (I heard Doug Gottlieb use the term "high-major" on CBS yesterday; I like it better than "power conference"; but legally the only high major schools are in Colorado or Washington, unless you're talking med schools.)

I sometimes wonder if the CBI and CIT are part of Bob Huggins' master plan to transition the NCAA tourney to a "high-major" only tourney.

I think some do a non-credit high major program via independent study in and around Athens too = ).

Legal yes, but still a banned substance/"ped" as far as the NCAA is concerned.

Ticket information for all fans and season ticket holders...

We're not done with basketball just yet! The Bobcats have been selected for the CollegeInsider Postseason Tournament (CIT) and will play at HOME in the Convo on Wednesday, March 19. Ohio will take on Cleveland State at 7:00 pm.

All tickets for the game are $10 each. As a season ticket holder, you have the opportunity to reserve your season ticket location. This "early reservation" deadline will close on Tuesday, March 18 at 2 p.m. After that, all seats will open for sale to the general public.

Season ticket holders may secure their seats by clicking here or by calling 800-575-2287. Fans will be allocated into their season ticket location automatically once their order is placed through the online system.

Current Ohio students will be admitted free of charge at the Convocation Center student entrance. Students must show a valid Ohio University ID for admission.

Parking at the game will be free of charge. Fans may park in the lots located behind the Convocation Center (lots 127/128). Click here to view a campus parking map.

Reserved tickets will be available for purchase on gameday for $10, as available. Gates open at 5:30 pm. Season ticket holders should be aware that they will not be able to request their season ticket location on gameday.

Go Bobcats!

Frankly, this tournament is a pile of crap. Yeah, yeah, I'm excited we get to keep playing, but looking at the field I don't really see any reason we shouldn't make a deep run. I'm also not a fan of how it's the only postseason tournament to not feature a bracket, but I do understand why. I wish we were playing in one of the other three but better this one than nothing.

They do need a home for the championship game.  Someplace people will want to go to in mid-March.  Someplace with a mid-major presence and a decent arena.  Vegas would be good.

I don't think it's as bad as you think. I do think Ohio is one of the better teams, but a lot of teams are about as good. In fact, Cleveland State is a really good team and probably one of the better in the field. That's one of the tough things about it not being bracketed. Ohio and Cleveland State probably would have been among the highest seeded teams.

I agree with previous posts that said they wish this was a home and home every year.  Gary Waters has done some nice things with CSU and they've got a good group coming back next year.  Anton Grady from Cleveland Central Catholic (alma mater of Earl Boykins) was a huge get since he was being recruited heavily.  Their Convocation Center is a nice venue, although they never come close to filling it.

Looking forward to seeing how we respond.  Post-season, more practices, more time to improve heading into the off-season.  Works for me.

OhioBobcat is correct!  What a pile of crap...per my posting on the other CIT thread:

Seriously people, just look at the competition in this Tournament. At least 10 of the schools have Sagrin Rankings GT 200! At least 8 more are Ranked between 150-200. Like my dearly departed mother says, you are judged by the Company you keep. This company in this Tournament SUCK! Actually, I believe Cleveland State is the ONLY school with a Sagrin LT 100. Toledo and Ohio at #104 1nd #107 are the next lowest.

More power to Buffalo. Have a higher goal to play in one of the two major Tournaments or stay home.

This is pathetic...sorry but it's true.

I'm excited for this tournament actually. We should be favorites by a few points here, and looking at this line-up Ohio is probably a feature program of this tourney. I'm assuming if we win the second game could be in Athens as well? Maybe Ric will make it into a game or two

Count me against a home-and-home with Cleveland State. We don't need to ride Kent and Akron's coattails.

And man, I really hope people aren't actually angry like they're coming across because we're playing in this thing.

Hey OUVan and Others...there are two issues here.  One is fact and one is opinion.  First, I simply said the field SUCKS.  Fact: it does.  You seriously can't disagree with that statement.  Second, it is my opinion that I don't know why anyone wants to play in a tournament with such a weak field.  What I said was I would think our "goals" for the year would be higher.  Is our goal to be ranked by Sagrin in the 150-200s and go the fourth tournament in the pecking order every year?  I never said anything about not supporting the players or watching the game.  I love the Cats so i will watch and root.

My one other point was if there is one good team in the Tournament, it is Cleveland State and we get to play them.  Not sure how this got round to Miami.  hell, they deserve to be in this thing given their Sagrin Ranking and comparing them to others in the field.

The goal was the NCAA Tournament, but how does playing in this tournament affect reaching that goal? That's what I don't get in this line of thinking. How does playing in this tournament make the season any less successful as opposed to just not playing at all?

For those deriding the quality of the opposition Wednesday:

CSU is 94th and we're 107th in the Sagarin ratings.

CSU is 85th and we're 119th in Ken Pomeroy's ratings.

No reason at all to overlook anyone in this field. We didn't exactly dominate a league composed mostly of teams in the 100-to-200 RPI range.

We all love OU basketball, right? Well, there's a game Wednesday. We can complain about it, or we can root for our team.

Go Cats.

Maybe you should go tell JC how wrong he is to play in the CIT Tonight's update for The Post had the following:

And much of that, in Christian’s opinion, falls upon college basketball as an institution and its inability to make postseason tournaments other than the “Big Dance,” something to be proud of.

For a team in his own conference like Buffalo to turn down bids to both the CIT and the College Basketball Invitational is “awful,” and doesn’t allow the MAC’s profile to rise, Christian said.

“If you don’t feel like you want to play because you’re above it, then I’m embarrassed for you,” he said. “I’m saddened when I see Buffalo do it.”

You've made your point ... repeatedly. Most here disagree with you.

Last, as far as "the field sucks" .. that is your opinion and NOT a fact, as you stated. Learn the diffference between facts and opinions (or edit your post to reflect the FACTS).
