Value and Maximize possessions. Turnovers and Rebounds I think  will be critical factors - then who has the HOT Hands Could be the difference. CONTROL your Destiny by Maximizing Possessions - what ever the pace.

A lot of this game depends on Bean. And OUr BIGs taking it to the rim.

Master of the obvious collection there.

Ever played in a gym and had a team run a series of fast break hoops on ya?  I've stopped the dribbler or outlet pass to stop the onslaught.  Usually works.  Us crashing the offensive boards and/or packing to attack inside may set up their fast break by keeping too many potential defenders 80+ feet from the breaking action.

Yeah I agree they're things you can do to slow them down and make it less likely they hit but I feel like at the end of the day if someone feeling it there isn't much teams can do to stop them. There have been those days in the gym for me but there has also been days when I play perfect D and the guy pulls up with my hand in his face and he hits it over and over.

Egads, try as we may, we just can't quite rise to the level of intellectual rigor demanded by the artist formerly known as Kit-Kat/3Ball.

In 25 years, a 2014 CIT championship t-shirt will be the most ironically cool shirt of all time. I must have one.

Sounds like VMI isn't a very good matchup for anyone. Hopefully getting out in the open court will help our offense instead of grinding out possession after possession in the half court. The biggest concern will be if they turn up the defensive pressure full court.

Many thanks to the VMI poster who shared his thoughts. Good stuff - love getting that kind of insight. Best of luck to VMI but GO BOBCATS!

This is my 5th potential "last" game at the Convo as a student. This is awesome.

I am 100% excited for any kind of postseason tournament the Bobcats are in. They're my team and, unlike others, I'm not going to let my silly thoughts on postseason CBI/CIT get in the way. Let's roll tonight and keep playing.

Exactly what I was worried about in terms of the lack of quick start out of VMI.
Ohio clearly came prepared for our offense and with a game plan against Covington.
At 32-16, it was looking pretty bleak. I am happy to get it to 7.
You are pushing Covington way out from his comfort zone, and doubling the post. Was surprised previous opponents did not do either.
Petersen who averages around 20, has 2 points.
Ndour is quite a player, usually VMI's defense will allow someone to explode like that.
Announcers have an interesting tone.
Good luck in the second half!

Russ and Rob are an interesting duo to put it mildly.  We're very lucky to have them in Athens!

Overall, it was a good first half.  When we made them pass it a few times, their point productions were lower.  We really need to get active on the glass when they're shooting though.  My main concern is that we seemed to let it slip in the late second half, but that is to be expected from a scoring machine like VMI.

First,  Thanks for joining us VMI Commentator. Your posts are much appreciated.

Second,  I had to know the background of Keydets and Kangaroos so I found this info

Keydets and Kangaroos

Moe the KangarooNo, a Keydet is not a Kangaroo, although the term "Keydets" has been used over the years to refer to VMI's athletic teams and the kangaroo has become the established mascot.

The story behind the kangaroo is relatively simple. Back in 1947, two VMI cheerleaders saw a picture of a kangaroo on the front of the magazine and realized how uncommon the animal was as a mascot. As one of the mascots was finally procured, a contest was held to give the creature an appropriate name. The prize winning name was "TD Bound."

Sometime later the kangaroo's name was changed to "Moe" in order that he might be associated in all sports at VMI and not just football. So far in history there have been four real "Moes", the last of which was actually a wallaby, the smaller relative of the kangaroo. A kangaroo costume worn by a VMI cheerleader then replaced the live mascot in the 70's so there could be a mascot representative at any VMI contest at home or on the road.

The source and/or meaning of the nickname "Keydets" is not as easy to find. The problem lies in the fact that there is no definite meaning that has been found for the word. There have been plenty of explanations offered, but none have been convincingly substantiated. The United States Military Academy claims that it was a word used to denote the gray of the standard uniform of a cadet. One less factual definition is that due to the Southern drawl of some of the members of the VMI Corps, the common term cadet was transformed into "Keydet".

VMI has had many nicknames through the years. Probably the longest standing name used to refer to its team, especially in football, was the "Flying Squadron." The nickname got started back in 1917 at a football game between VMI and North Carolina. The name stuck and became more popular during the 1920 football season. It wasn't until the 30's that the term "Keydet" came into use in conjunction with the athletic teams.

Regarless of which definition is correct, the word "Keydet" like kangaroo, will continue to identify VMI's athletic teams.

Looks like we are mailing it in on defense in the 2nd half.

Microcosm of our season(which will be ending shortly). We play like world beaters at times(first 15 minutes or so), then we play like we are the worst team in the league(pretty much the whole 2nd half). No consistency at all this year.

JC will blame fatigue yet he has healthy players who sat the bench all game.

If they aren't good enough to play against VMI, why are they on the team?

VMI, congratulations.  You go on the road with an undersized lineup and you get behind by 17 then kick our tails.

Best wishes to you for continued success in this tournament and future seasons.

These cadets will go on to serve our country in one of the branches of our armed forces.  Thank you for your intentions and preparation to serve.

Individual shout out to Covington for a HUGE game and your coolness at stroking two free throws at the end!

Bad loss.

Ohio shouldn't be dropping games to a team like VMI

Color me impressed with VMI in that second half, they hit top gear and never looked back.

Less losing to teams like VMI and more losing when up by 17 over anyone.
