The guy seems too good to be true. It should be an interesting ride.

Saul is absolutely crushing this presser. I once again ask the question everyone has reiterated: "How can you NOT like this guy?"

He's a real funny guy.

"I didn't want to leave the room with Schaus. What's he gonna do....kick me out?"

"They did I'm sure the typical background checks....hope they didn't check with my college girlfriend."

Love to see a copy of the press conference....a plethora of one liners.

Like everyone I was very impressed with the press conference.  I'm more excited about this hire than I've ever been about any previous Ohio basketball HC hire.  I mean I was excited when Nee, Hunter, Groce and Christian were hired.  But not this excited.  This leaves me with many of the same emotions that I had on "Holy Thursday" when Frank was introduced way back in '05.  It is clear that this man's total focus is on giving OHIO the best basketball program that it possibly can have.  Moreover, he is genuinely happy to be here and has a most engaging -- if off-the-wall --  sense of humor.  Since I'm an off-the-wall guy myself, I'm totally in the same groove with him.  In fact, he reminds me of myself in my most flippant moments.  Exciting time to be a Bobcat!  Go OHIO!

And, we are going to hold you to it!  No release will be granted!

Seriously, when you come to town, give me a call.  I'd love to see you again.  You have at least one free beer at the local establishment of your choice.

In contrast, in his 3 p.m. intro press conference at Boston College today, Jim Christian never thanked anyone at Ohio or even acknowledged that he coached in Athens.  It was kind of weird.

It seems like every new thing that comes out opens up the door to that locker room more and more. That's sad that he didn't and it's kind of disrespectful. I know some people's personalities are different and they would rather look ahead to the future that the past, but gee wiz.

Ohio was a sturdy rowboat for Jim Christian. He could say he got off the S.S. Horned Frog before it actually sank. Did enough to keep it from taking on water, get him to the Carpathia where he could shiver in a blanket and tell everyone he never saw any of it coming.

Egg on my face. I gave Christian the benefit of the doubt late last week when he hadn't issued a formal nor informal nod of gratitude to the greater OHIO community, his players, recruits, staff, fanbase etc., for his opportunity and time spent in Athens. I attributed his silence at time to he was probably caught up in the "whirl-wind" of how the events were unfolding. That he hasn't even acknowledged the mere existence of his OHIO experience is beyond reprehensibly rude and reeks of lack of character.

I posited before I was "stunned" at the news of Christian leaving for the BC job. It's not that I was stunned that he was leaving, I was stunned where he was leaving for. I didn't feel there was anything in his resume at this point in his coaching career that would qualify him as a candidate at an ACC school. I'm also stunned that he in effect has "shunned" OHIO on his way out the door.

Oh well it's BC's burden to bear at this point. I think it's going to play out truly as B/C going forward as well as in Bates/Christian. Time will tell whether this MAC-produced "package" Soars like an Eagle, pun intended! Appears the overwhelming response of the BC fanbase doesn't give this dynamic duo much of a chance to even get off the ground.

The difference in the two pressers was palpable.  Saul has the room laughing and engaged; the room at BC was, to be honest, pretty gloomy.  JC did not present much in the way of enthusiasm while SP was effusive.
What a difference!  You are gonna love this man's approach to the game.

There will NOT be a dull moment in Athens next year!  I guess some might be put off by the wisecracks, or at least want to see how Saul's team does on the court before passing judgement.  I think his attitude and personality are going to get Ohio much better known throughout the MAC footprint.  Saul will be the ONLY coach talked about at the preseason media meetings next year.

I mean this in a good way:  In front of the mic, he reminds me of a cross between Howie Mandel and Barry Switzer...

Here's the Boston College press conference, you have to ffwd quite a bit to get to the actual start. It looks less like the exciting introduction to a new head coach and more like two teenagers telling their families that they're pregnant.

I will say that the joking and wisecracks would get pretty old during a 10 game losing streak, but I don't see that happening. These next ten years could be the biggest and best ten years in Ohio basketball history.

Note: my wife tells me I'm crazy to believe the whole "my daughter is going to graduate from Athens" bit, but coach Phillips has made a believer out of me!

These pressers are a study in contrasts.

BC's lighting made the speakers look tired and haggard. Bates opened with a yawn, Christian lost the room when he described the "Identity Board".

Ohio's lighting in from the right direction. Schaus sounds like he means it when he says it's a great day to be a Bobcat. Phillips won the room in 14 seconds when he evidences his recruiting talents.

I want JC and BC to do well, I really, really do. But at this moment, I think Ohio got the better end of this deal.

Biggest surprise of the day - as of the presser, Phillips and McDavis had still not met.
