the freakout on Twitter by the official Ozone twitter account is over the line. threatening players, throwing a fit... its over the top. Be passionate during the game, but then leave it in the Convo. We need to be represented better than that.

It was a complete embarrassment by the O-Zone twitter page and some of their leaders after the game. It's okay to be passionate and say things but you have to be able to take it back. Ohio lost but I agree with you that some of our fellow fans need to grow up.

Agreed.  I've been there before myself, but If you can't look back after the emotion is cooled down and say you were over the top....well....that's something to think about.

Honestly, who cares?

I've covered UB for the majority of the season and have never seen anything close to what is being described above. Maybe they did it. It's honestly not a big deal.

Players do weird crap like that all of the time. And to be honest, Ohio probably was in their heads. I know for a fact that their history vs. the Bobcats is definitely in their fan base's heads.

For crying out loud, I was a UB fan before I attended Ohio and the 05 Championship debacle still haunts me even though I ended up graduating from Ohio.
What line does a player have to cross to make unacceptable behavior? Obviously several gestures and having contact with the band's equipment is okay. Do we draw the line when the player has contact with a student?

I know the Ozone is ruthless and there are moral lines that should not be crossed. Did the ozone cross a line? What were the chants the Ozone were directing towards McCrea?

Add me to the list of folks who find it odd that the group that dishes it out so well had an absolute hissy fit when they had to take it. That's just pitiful.

Write a letter to the UB AD? Srsly?

Was McCrae out of line? Yep. I'd never quite seen the level of actual wiggling I witnessed last night. And frankly, McCrae did not exactly demonstrate any substantial prowess with his post move, if you catch my drift.

Do I think UB did a poor job of having a designated floor cleaner to shepherd players out quickly and quietly? Yep. I think the head coach should get out quickly, for the purpose of being able to truthfully say he didn't see any shenanigans, but there needs to be a guy to move the team off court. And if JC doesn't have one, he should.

Nice job by all the Homeland Security keepers that moseyed toward the floor once everyone did leave. That was proactivity in its purest government directed form.

Yeah that's why I struggle to call this classless because again the Ozone isn't classy. We pride ourselves on it. We lost, they won, they celebrated. get over it.

IMO tho what he did had a lot of similarities to the OSU finger. Had what he did been caught on TV I think we could expect a suspension of some sort.

Don't be surprised to see the visiting enter and exit the tunnel nearest their bench from now on.  That makes sense and that way they don't have to cross in front of the ozone or band and this sort of thing will be less likely to happen.

I heard something about McCrea going over and doing something with the 110's drums, but I want to see video before I pass judgment

Good point. In this age of everything being on video, no one has video of any of this? Not to say it didn't happen, but everything seems to be caught on video.

I'm not saying McCrea was wrong to puff out his chest a little. I was embarrassed to hear creative taunting like, "Hey, F U #12" from the OZone last night. If you're so passionate about an opposing player, at least learn his name. He was emotional, but crossed the line.

I simply expect slightly better behavior from the players, and the coaches should know better. The was Hurley acted leaving the floor was childish. He's a 40 yr old man that played in the toughest venues in all of college basketball. How does he not know how to control himself, as well as his players?

I had no problem with anything McCrea did until the gang-like handgun gesture. That was the major difference between McCrea and Treadwell this year postgame.

We are really judging players and fans by the same standard?  Come on.  Fans are going to be over the line and ridiculous...If you want to play big time basketball, listening to that comes with the territory.  It in no way gives the player the right to dish it back.  I'd be disappointed if a Bobcat acted this way in victory.

A crotch grab?  Alright, no biggie.  A flick off?  Unoriginal, but sure.  A gun hand across mouth move?  Weird, but fine.  Messing with a snare drum?  Completely random, but whatever.

All 4 of them combined?  You're just a douche.

In fairness, I thought that it was done in a rather clever manner that didn't cross the line. Some of the things chanted were quite creative.

For me, just doing one of those things qualifies them for that title.

Hey, cool, someone didn't read the dirt sheet and assumed things. The reason we had such a particular distaste for him was because he was messaging one of my female friends on Twitter the night before the game trying to convince her to come to their hotel. He was using some very colorful language which she did not appreciate.

I don't think an effective student section is ever classy. The good ones say things that others are afraid to and that's what gets under players skins. I'm not saying that the ozone tries to be un classy they just are

I'd have to agree with that.  The five ozone guys at the end who sang nah nah nah you suck at the end when the Kent player fouled out and we're down by 15 were far from classy.  Sometimes you can just let things go and not say anything.

Classy isn't one of the words that comes to mind when I think of the effective student sections. Tasteful vs. tasteless is the debate you should be having.

No offense to anyone in the O-Zone but it has been a joke for the last 3+ years and I was part of it from 2009-13. The regression I've seen year-to-year has been startling. Less and less creativity, less noise, and more pointless swearing.

It's still by far the best student section in the MAC but it hasn't been on par with its reputation for quite some time in my opinion. When I was a freshmen, it was insane for some of the games I attended.

Haven't really seen atmospheres matching it since. Crowds have gotten larger but less crazy. And who can forget the horrible court storming against Miami in 2012 when students jumped on the tables to get to the court...

The O Zone has had some great moments from 2013 and 2014. Kent '13, Akron '13, and Toledo '14 immediately come to mind.

You're wrong.
Let me clarify a little bit. Can a student section be effective in creating a good atmosphere and loud noise by being classy? yes they can. Can a student section get under a players skin and make them visually agitated by being classy? no. To really get under a players skin you have to be willing to cross a line so to speak. You have to say something both rude and personal that will really bother them. In some cases players laugh it off and thinks its funny. I think Tree this year would be an example of that. (kudos to him. That's my favorite is when you get a player to laugh that's when you know they hear.) other players rise to the heckles and let it elevate there play. That would be Diggs this year. and others let it get to them and it effects there play. that would be McCrae. missed 5 straight ft's I don't think its a coincidence either. It was the taunting the ozone gave hence his late game reaction. You can't invoke that without being un classy. Or maybe you can. If so please post a video of it or give an example of one
