Not sure if this has been mentioned on other threads but it appears that we have 2 walk-ons.

Interesting quote from Stevie:

“It’s more of a coach-friendly environment, player-friendly environment,” Taylor said. “This team, we hang out outside of basketball all the time. I couldn’t say that about my first three years.”

“I think (chemistry) will help us win a couple of those extra games where last year we kind of folded and we kind of gave up towards the end.”
============================================================================
isn't that exactly what they said last year when we blamed Cooper and Keeley for the chemistry issues the year before that? wasn't last year all about the "pack" hanging out together all the time?

And I recall hearing such talk more recently - this past August - coming from the football team.

Yes, repeatedly. I feel like last year's comments were a little more on the court, talking and selflessness and working as a team...While this comment is all about off the court.

Wasn't last year's team one of the grittiest in some time, a team that willed itself to win on a few occasions?

This team does seem closer than others. You can tell by just looking at social media. they seem to be together during the weekends and that is good. Ive seen them at the volleyball games so they support the other athletic teams as well. I believe stevie and that this team is a lot CLOSER than others

I think "team chemistry" is overrated. Just because guys are teammates, or co-workers doesn't mean they are compatible off the court and have to hang out. The odds are actually quite low that will happen. Remember your first roommate? They must get along on the court and maybe like each other a little bit, but that's about it.

That's why it's important for the staff to not only find players with talent but players that won't be a locker room cancer. Basketball teams are small groups. This isn't like the football team with dozens and dozens of guys. One bad teammate can be a real headache on a basketball roster.

Based on name & where he's played, I'm guessing he's the son of a NBA'er (& Middie) Doug Jemision.

Looks like the three new walk-ons were officially added to the roster: http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/ohio-m-bas...

Reggie Williams, Allen Jemison, and Sam Freyer. Crabtree returning makes 4 walk-ons. I don't ever remember the Bobcats having this many walk-ons. At least we won't be under-manned in practice this year.

Saul better watch it. Some on this board are going to be saying that this team is made up of nothing but D2 talent and walk-ons! ;-)

If you want to compare the tone of last years comments with this year, I don't think you have to look any further than the Nick & Stevie dynamic/difference.

From my perspective, you've got two different types of players (and maybe people - but as I've learned playing basketball with my coworkers, that's not always direct correlation):

Nick: business & precision - his play was controlled, smart, and almost methodical. I think those helped him become an amazing SG. Nick knew he was going to be good.

Stevie: fun & energy - you can see when he really enjoys what he's doing, and you generally see he's got an extra gear. He's the spark and has been since he was a freshman. I don't think Stevie knew his potential coming in.

These two were Yin & Yang.

Comments last year were Nick-driven, and my own interpretation was "those guys are gone, we were really good but could have been better if they just would have understood how we all our skills could have fit together for a sum greater than its parts"

Stevie's comments this year are "Dude, this is our 3rd coach in 3 years! We're sticking together and gonna make the best of it. The dudes that just got here last year and this year get what a team is about, mostly cause we don't have much star history. I've been to the NCAA promise land and it was amazing, we probably won't make it back in my last season, but we're sure gonna try and it's gonna be enjoyable"

Nick always seemed to hate being second fiddle to DJ's idiotic shot choices, cause he was a better pure shooter. He had a big chip on his shoulder and we saw that last year. We saw an expanded persona from him. He mean-mugged and taunted way more than I ever expected.

Stevie has no chip, he's just got Stevie oozing out of him.

BG&W . . . all good points. I especially agree with the whole being greater than the sum of its parts philosophy. That's the big upside I see with Saul Ball. I've seen that with some other OHIO coaches, but Saul seems at this juncture to be able to blend a team this way better than any coach since Gentleman Jim. Of course, this is before he's actually coached a game at OHIO that counts in the standings, so maybe this is more hope than reality, but that's really my impression at the moment. I'm pumped!

I noticed last weekend there was a player that I thought was Kaminski at practice wearing a boot on his right foot.

Agreed OCF. Hope is at an all-time high for me and frankly I'm afraid of a big letdown, but I've been through that before. Groce's first years were full of ups and downs, and it made all the success more enjoyable. I'm excited to hear Saul pre & post game. JC was too much like TOS, wouldn't give you anything interesting.

I disagree. TOS would either say something completely uninteresting or WAY too interesting.

Post 2005 he was a snooze fest. Nothing compared to kicking and breaking the lighted sign on the scorers table, and almost chasing the refs down one of the tunnels post-game.

Yeah, but who wasn't? If we're gonna talk greatest hits the was "Ohio, Ohio, & Ohio"

When the team wasn't good he was boring, and I do t think Saul will be.
