This is the first conference home game in a long, long time that I will not be able to make due to a conflict. If anyone would like two lower bowl reserved tickets, please PM me. I'd love to have those two seats filled.

9. Chandler Thomas to play at least one minute. Dude averaged 6 boards for a D-1 team, he can at least bang for us for 2 minutes right?
Is he eligible?
I thought Arkley said he was eligible for the BGSUcks game. GET HIM IN!
It would be nice to see what he can do with some game minutes.

I expected a bigger spread, but still odd to be home underdogs in a conference game. Very rare in the last several years.

Speaking of, BG @ Akron opened as a pick em (has since moved to Akron -1.5). Didn't see that one coming at season's open...

can't remember where I saw it but SP was quoted as saying he was disappointed that he didn't get Chandler some playing time and that he should have so I imagine we'll see him against Toledo at some point.

I think you are remembering Arkley's tweet, but it was about Harley.

Toledo has a really good field goal % and effective field goal percentage. They can flat out shoot. If Ohio is to have any chance to compete in this game, the defense has to step up bigtime.

Toledo also feeds off the FT line, so part of Ohio's defensive effort has to be sound and avoiding getting in foul trouble. And good lateral movement to cut off drives.

UT has a very good assist to turnover ratio, but so do their opponents. They don't turn people over as much as their opponents.

Juice Brown is money from three--47.4%.

Toledo has also improved significantly on defense. Last year, they gave up 109.1 points per 100 possession (255th in the country). This year, they're giving up 100.0 points per 100 possessions (160th in the country). Not exactly lockdown D, but with their above average offense (55th in the country at 107.2 points per 100 possessions) they are formidable. They have had bad luck in close games or their record would be healthier than 9-6.

Close losses:

  • Detroit 82-79
  • Oakland 81-79
  • CMU 65-62

Fake Jeff McKinney just told me that Toledo could very well be a Sweet 16 team this year.

I just want to check in with a "Go Bobcats!" I haven't watched much of the team this year (I'm rarely available to watch the streams) but I'm still lurking. I have Sports Time Ohio and was hoping to catch more games at least on DVR. Oh well. I'm sure Saul and gang will get their first MAC win soon!

My feed is spectacular; best of the season. I'm pretty sure I've determined the issue lies within my home's speed when I have them.

At the game so no feed problems here. However, the car's momentum has been taken away more than once by some question calls. Like that traveling call against Tony C.

Not making excuses but when you have to maximize every possession those kinds of calls magnify the problems.

Four very bad calls resulted in four fouls apiece for Mo and Treg in the middle of the second half. Game began to really turn then.

Encouraging first half showed what this team can do if it plays with it's head up. Foul trouble kind of undermined us but we fell prey to the same problems we've been cursed with in the second half. Saul needs to take that five minute segment where we had really good ball movement and play it on a loop in the film room.

Stevie made several crisp passes to open teammates tonight, his court vision was there tonight. N'Dour had a offensive night but the fouls just kept piling up down low (Setty and Campbell too).

It seemed like Laster spent more time in the paint tonight. I liked the effort tonight, thought the guys played well, and I hope we can get on the board at Kent State on Saturday.

Great effort, they just fell short against a good team. It was an encouraging loss, if that is possible. I agree, foul trouble really hurt and some of the calls were beyond questionable. Weatherspoon can fly, Juice is still Juice.

And welcome back, Stevie Taylor!

Toledo had five called fouls in the first half and six called in the second. No bonus opportunities for the Cats but Toledo had the bonus in each half. Just sayin'.

There were 4-5 pretty BS calls in a few minutes when the tides turned. I don't remember the series of events, but loosely speaking, Tony got called for a ridiculous travel, they gave a deflected out of bounds rebound off Toledo back to Toledo, and then a very confusing Technical to Tony. That turned the game and we couldn't close the gap.

The foul trouble for all 3 bigs hurt us - Only 18 mins from Tony and 28 from Ndour. If they both were able to play 32+ it could have changed things.

I never imagined we would out-shoot Toledo, let alone out-shoot them and still lose. Too many fouls (and them shooting 82% from the line) and a few more turnovers than them was the difference.

Toledo is good, deep. Their loss to CMU withstanding, I still think they cruise to a repeat MAC title. But they lose a ton next year.

As other posters have confirmed, there was nothing "confusing" about the Technical.

That says to me, like in a bunch of other games this year, that other than Mo, some of these guys aren't very adept at drawing fouls and getting to the line.

What amazes me about this team is how bad they are defensively. On the post-game, Saul said they are little things away from being good. Perhaps, offensively. But on defense they have guards who aren't good at stopping penetration and I've yet to see Ndour battle for position. Which means guards have to sag back to help and that creates other problems. They are so bad defensively that their margin of error offensively is quite slim. After watching the last few games it struck me that it would be al most impossible for them to come back from a deficit because they can't string multiple stops together.

I took apart last night's boxscore to just show Toledo's offensive possessions (stops are in BOLD). Ohio did have a streak of 7 possessions (from the end of the first half through the beginning of the second half) where Toledo did not score. Unfortuately, Ohio did not capitalize. Other than that, Toledo never went more than 3 possessions without scoring. I don't know how you have a chance to win with D like that. Granted, Toledo is an above-average offensive team. But this has become a trend.
