Still no perceived movement on this issue. What could possibly be the reason for the lack of recognition, especially with the resurgence of the program?
They don't care.

How could that be when so many in other threads feel we have the best ad in the MAC.

This requires more than a message board thread. Perhaps an organized campaign involving email, social media and feet on the ground marketing(handing leaflets out prior to game, hang a banner at games, etc.) And face-to-face campaigning everytime those who support this idea come in contact with the AD, Prez, etc.

The women just dusted BGSU 71-46 and now stand at 19-3 heading to F%$#i looking for 20. With the Hall of Fame recognition game coming up in the Convo, what better time to raise #40 into the rafters?

I shared her accomplishments with several posters here and a highly placed OU administrator tonight at the game. Let's see where it goes from here.

How timely that this topic is on top again. An email from a long time supporter of OU outlining Carolyn's accomplishments now sits in the ad's mailbox with copies to Dr. McDavis, the chair of the hall of fame committee and the board of trustees chair. I think we'll be seeing a new jersey hanging in the Convo next year. Thanks to all who continue to support this most worthy cause and recognition for a fine example of a great student and athlete.

Perhaps they need to finish the engineering study to determine if the roof can support an additional jersey?

Time to unpin. 10 weeks with no comments. Probably time to file this idea away.

This needs to remain until she is finally honored with a jersey in the rafters.

This would seem to be a good question to ask at the next Bobcat Caravan. Any out of town takers for this?

I think the caravans are over so I just sent this email to Amy Dean, Executive Senior Athletic Administrator (SWA):

Amy-

I trust this email finds you well and enjoying the summer in Athens and all it provides (parking spots wherever you want, shorter lines at Kroger, and event free weekends). As I’m sure you’re well aware, there has been considerable suggestion and discussion to add the jersey of Bobcat great Carolyn Mast to the rafters of the Convo. Many folks have spoken to senior athletics administrators over the past few years in an effort to make this a reality. Complete and comprehensive data has been supplied to support that request – all Bobcat fans are waiting for now is the announcement that this will become a reality.

Should you need additional letters of support or if there is a formal nomination process to make this happen, please let me know and I’m sure that we can provide that information in a timely manner. Thank you for your attention to this most important matter. Go Bobcats!

I did get a reply and they will be doing "research on “best practices” and with the implications for all sports in mind" in the near future. My response that as the MAC player of the decade (80's), that recognition was greater than any that they'd find for any individual that competed in the Convo in the past 30 years. As least they are working on it, though.

Fabulous player who has earned recognition in the building where she played. Hope it happens soon.

I'm quite certain the athletic department knows this is important and would like to honor her appropriately, but the logistics are much more complicated. Do we recognize her at a Mens game, so more people can be a part of it? I don't think that's appropriate. A women's game, with 1000 folks or fewer perhaps? Do we go between games of a doubleheader, which only happens once or twice a year? What if the honoree is not available for those particular very limited dates? I believe a lot of care has to go into how and when this is done for maximum exposure and the schedule has to work for both parties.

Agreed on all counts, but, the problem is, the determination hasn't even been made yet to hang her jersey.

There is 1 criteria that has been overlooked. Would this sell tickets? I don't really know. Trent's jersey retirement drew 11k against Miami.
it may not be a fair criteria.

First of all his jersey was not "retired." Second whether or not it sells tickets is totally immaterial to her consideration for recognition.

Maybe this charge should be lead by someone less cranky and whiney. So they didn't "retire" Trent's jersey. The point about ticket sales is that athletics is probably trying to leverage an event for maximum exposure and dollars.
The days of the Green and White Club pushing around the AD are over (thankfully)!

Here's a thought. Why not make this a twofer: hang the MAC championship banner for the women's 2014-15 season and Carolyn's number in the rafters on the same day. It would make a nice ceremony and indicate some continuity for the program.

Now that's a silly post. We worked very closely with two of the last four ADs and contributed in excess of a million dollars.

The Gree and White club pushed no one around. If anything it helped carry a local fan base and was a source for ICA during the dark ages.
