These articles and these stats from the MAC website speak for themselves:

3rd all time leading scorer in MAC history - 2449
1st all time scoring average - 23.0
1st all time rebounder in MAC history - 1223
1st all time rebounding average - 10.9
3 time MAC player of the year

Anyone know what the hold up is?

Also, MAC player of the decade, named to the freshman All-American team, holds the Ohio career rebounding record, and Cats' leading scorer each of her four years in the Convo.
It is time.

I never saw her play, and know little about women's basketball outside of what I read on here, but her resume speaks for itself. Besides that, it's time to celebrate more than 5-6 names inside The Convo. There have been many more than that worthy of mention in the rafters for the men and women in Ohio Basketball history.

I've addressed this issue in the past, written to the Post and spoken to Ohio media relations staff members. Here's another stat that speaks for itself:

In NCAA women’s Division 1 basketball, Caroline Mast Daugherty is listed 25th all-time in total points plus rebounds. These combined numbers of 3672 (2449 points and 1223 rebounds) far surpass those of any MAC women players.

No other MAC player made the top 115. She's the 1st player to score 2000 points and have 1000 rebounds.

This achievement deserves recognition of the highest level, and hanging her banner only adds to the richness of Ohio University athletics. It should have happened a long time ago.

To say she is deserving of having her jersey hang from the rafters of the Convo is an understatement. I remember going to the mens games early so that we could catch the womens game. During that period, she may have been the most dominant player I saw in the Convo. That included players like Devereaux, Harper, Majerle, Battle, Jamerson... On a side note(it may have been mentioned on here before) last year one of her daughters won the Div 2 National Championship at Ashland and was national player of the year.

I agree entirely, Alan. Has anyone written Jim about this? If so, what's been the response? If not, Alan, I appoint you the guy in charge of the BA Committee to Hang Carolyn Mast Daughtery's Jersey in the Rafters, better known as the BACHCMDJITR! ;-)

I talked with him Tuesday night at length before the UNC Wilmington game. While I can say he listened, I think it will take more than my documented comments to make this happen. The hang up seems to be a fundamental lack of understanding of what she did in the time period that she did it. I would encourage all Bobcats to email and call him to get this done this year and if not this year, during the 2016 season which would be the 30th anniversary of her leading the Bobcats to a MAC title and the best winning season percentage wise in OU history.

Count me in, Captain! I'll send him an email as soon as the WVU flirt is over as well as the Pitt gambit. I need to write him about another matter, and I'll include a mention of the need to hang Carolyn's number up. In fact, this will fit very well with the general content of my message. I'll PM you with the private details.

When the Green & White Club was still active, we did send him a letter detailing her accomplishments and request that her jersey be hung. No response from him.

I don't mean to be detrimental. I'm not that kind of person, as you know. But this injustice is so large and stupid that withholding further financial support until this is quickly remedied should be considered.

Maybe a way to look at it is this: If a male basketball player had those accomplishments, would his number be in the rafters?

While I agree that that type of action is often quite successful, her on the court numbers and off court accomplishments are reason enough for jersey recognition. In this case calls and letters of support will prove far more effective than threats.

I agree 100 % with you Alan. Caroline deserves her place in the rafters of the Convo. I agree with OCF's thoughts about waiting until the WVU process is completed etc. Timming is everything. I will put in my two cents worth with J.S. next time I see him in an environment conducive to a good conversation.

Here's what you who are local and can attend the games ought to do right now: Wear #40 Mast jerseys to the game and hold up 'Hang Mast' signs. I think such signs would get a lot of attention to the issue.

"hanging her banner only adds to the richness of Ohio University athletics." This applies to Ms Mast's achievements, as well as those of others. While her jersey, in my opinion, as well as many of yours, should be the next one to go up, it shouldn't be the last. I've said a number of times that recognizing All-MAC performers on a banner by sport for all sports played in The Convo (basketball - men & women, volleyball, and wrestling).

Make the place feel like what it is: One of the best and most historic sports venues in the Midwest. Recognize the names that have made it so, starting next with Caroline Mast.

Besides that, banner recognition games also help sell tickets if that's an angle that folks within the Convo would be concerned about.

Long overdue and sad that we have to beg to get number up there. While we are at it, do we have a volleyball section in the convo? A lot of great athletes have played in the convo, we need to celebrate that!

I've brought this up to Jim multiple times. His response has been basically that it will be discussed (I don't know when) and that the athletic dept. has to weigh which numbers to retire vs. putting too many into the rafters (see UNC, Celtics, etc.).
I think that putting the number of the UNQUESTIONED best women's player in school history (and top 10 in MAC history) in the rafters should be a no-brainer.
Cooper will get there eventually and an argument can be made for Bryant, Zastudil or TT4 on the FB side; but, Caroline has to be the next number, period.

p.s. Yes, I saw her play (84-86), Yes, she was that dominant.

The "too many numbers" argument holds no water. The next woman to have her number retired will be the first.

I'm concerned that recognition has a price tag attached. That would be unacceptable.

I believe that the real force for change lies within the Bolden regime. If he embraces the program's past, it will happen.

I fear they simply don't care enough about the women's program to make it happen.

While I love Ohio University and Bobcat athletics, they do move at a glacial pace on things like this. After all, we are talking about the same athletic department that just retired (if that's the right word) Mike Schmidt's number this year.

That being said, retiring Mast's number is a no-brainer.

Wouldn't put Schmidt in this boat. He's been 'part of the problem' for his own recognition. Glad he made it back to campus the most recent time though.

Still no perceived movement on this issue. What could possibly be the reason for the lack of recognition, especially with the resurgence of the program?
