Maybe this charge should be lead by someone less cranky and whiney. So they didn't "retire" Trent's jersey. The point about ticket sales is that athletics is probably trying to leverage an event for maximum exposure and dollars.
The days of the Green and White Club pushing around the AD are over (thankfully)!

The Gree and White club pushed no one around. If anything it helped carry a local fan base and was a source for ICA during the dark ages.
Couldn't have said it better.

Don't sell yourself short, Alan.

You could have said the "Green" and White.

It was a good ride for many years and provided an extremely affordable tailgating experience for thousands of loyal Bobcats for 50 years. Dues were only $25 for a family in 1995 and by the time we disbanded/were forced out of business in 2012, dues were only $100 for a family which included all the food and beverages you could possibly want for the season. Many of our older members tell us again and again how they miss sitting in a chair under their favorite tree sharing stories with old friends and new acquaintances.

I agree that my statement about the G&W may have been harsh. Sorry if I offended anyone. The long time efforts of a volunteer organization like G&W was a labor of love for our Bobcats and appreciated by the members, such as myself.

I know there is considerable interest and justification for recognition for Mast.

I think the Athletic Department has given an answer and running a public campaign on BA is disrespectful. Reaching out to other university officials and posting copies of you communication with them (Amy Dean) is also disrespectful.

Just my opinion.

I think the real disrespect here is not "running a public campaign on BA" but having to campaign at all. Caroline's achievements speak for themselves. She is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder for Ohio (men or women),led her team in scoring and rebounding all four years of her career, led her team to a MAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA tourney, MAC Freshman of the Year, three time MAC Player of the Year, 1st team COSIDA All American in 1986, 2nd team COSIDA All American in 1985, all time career leader in rebounds for the MAC, all time record holder for free throws made in the MAC, member of the Kermit Blosser Ohio Athletic Hall of Fame, member of the MAC Hall of Fame, inducted into the State of Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, named Player of the Decade (80's) for the MAC, and carried a 3.89 g.p.a. in Mathematics. She was a tremendous role model as a player at Ohio, always deflecting praise and giving her teammates the credit for her accomplishments. These are just a few examples of the many records Caroline holds. She is now a successful teacher and coach, having led her team to back to back OHSAA State Basketball titles. It seems like her male counterparts have been given their due, it's time that Caroline has her proper place in the rafters. If she were male we wouldn't be talking about it-she would be in the rafters and that is the real shame-that in the year 2015 we still have to fight what appears to be gender discrimination in athletics.

Had those communiques and postings been the first effort i might be able to agree with you. But when normal channels (I'm a chain of command guy) have been exhausted, it's then time to take things to the next level. As others have said, any campaign at all is what is disrespectful when her actions, words and deeds in and of themselves should have gained inclusion for her years ago.

Lest y'all forget, IT IS TIME to get number 40 in the rafters along with the new seats and the championship banners.

It's been a long time coming! I am delighted that Ohio University has finally chosen to recognize Caroline Mast and am thankful for those of you who have helped bring her to the forefront time and time again until she received the recognition she deserved.

Thanks Mike. It wasn't me, although I may have been the loudest voice both on here and in my contacts with the ad. There are/were many others who have been advocating for this for many many years. My connection was for two reasons 1) having seen her play back in the mid-80's and having recognized how much of a team player she was and 2) having worked with folks at River View High School since 1987 and listening to them and their appreciation for one of the best Lady Bears ever to play. We should have had a pipeline to River View in volleyball and basketball but for some reason, we have had this idea that local kids just aren't good enough. That's another story for another day but suffice it to say, I am very happy that Caroline's jersey will be hoisted to the rafters this season.

+1

Agree 100 percent about local kids and about this long-overdue recognition of Caroline.

A Bobcat Legend: Ode to Caroline Mast

Been 30 years plus since she put on her show
A four-year team player seen at the Convo
Since she was here a long time has passed
Now we’re raising the jersey of Caroline Mast!

Twenty-four hundred points* – that’s cutting the cords
Now add to that over twelve hundred boards
No MAC player comes close, her stats unsurpassed
We’re raising the jersey of Caroline Mast!

If you’re the MAC player for an entire decade,
And twice All American- feats that won’t fade
With records galore! Now ain’t that a blast?
We’re raising the jersey of Caroline Mast!

Her number, four zero - it needs dusting off -
Will soon soar on high in the Convo aloft
Let’s all rejoice! The die is now cast
We’re raising the jersey of Caroline Mast!

Subliminal.....maybe or maybe not? Check out the positioning of KB and Treg on the opening of ohiobobcats.com Their uniform numbers make a 40 and with the Convo floor in the background looks like it's hanging in the rafters already.
