Two good things about this game:

1. It's a win.

2. it's over.

Wow, only 27 minutes total for the bench. And the full 40 for Simmons.

Jackson State isn't a bad team. They also have played a far more tougher schedule than Ohio. They are usually among the top basketball programs in the SWAC. Bobcats got the win as expected.

Saul was visibly very nervous on the sideline before the game started. He anticipated a tough outing and said as much in the post game interview. Said he was worried about this team and the problems they create.

I was miffed when I heard the refs had access to video replay. No announcer or delayed to the radio broadcast would have been fine. Maybe the University's internet is down for break also.

Burn. The. Tape.

That was one of the ugliest, sloppiest, most flow-less games I have seen in some time. Jackson St ran the four corners for an extended period of time in the 1st half, for cryin' out loud. Clanked free throw after clanked free throw. I saw three turnovers that were credited to Jaaron when his guys just weren't paying attention or couldn't handle a pass for a dunk. His find of Wadley in the second half was a gorgeous pass and it went right through Wadley's hands out of bounds. I believe I heard JSU had 18 offensive rebounds? I knew it was a lot but...wow. Couple those with the huge number of tipped rebounds we didn't control going out of bounds and the turnovers, and they got a lot of extra possessions. It also got pretty chippy for a few minutes, good to see our guys keep their heads when that happened. Tony played foul free for a half...then picked up 3 in about 9 minutes to start the second half.

I was having flashbacks to the Winthrop game in 2012. Glad we got a W, felt like an L was coming most of the night.

This would be a perfect discount ticket, family night, holiday game with Santa in the lobby like they've done in the past. Maybe that will be the Arkansas - PB game.

Either this one, or Monday's game, would have been perfect games to have ON SATURDAY! Ya know, when the schedule came out, I wasn't annoyed with who was on the schedule at all. I was, and am annoyed with the fact that in a 15 day span we have 4 scheduled home games, and none on Saturday. It's a complete head shaking decision for me, and one that I sure hope doesn't get repeated again.

Agree with this. As a season ticket holder who comes in from Cleveland for games, it's a tough pill to swallow. I made FGCU, and my next game will be in January. By the end of the year, it's quite possible that I'll see more away games than home ones.

Yeah, but there's another team involved. did you check their schedule? Maybe we were trying to keep the weekend before the holiday open? Maybe we knew there was a good chance of a MAC bowl tie in falling on that weekend? Lots of reasons.

To be fair that was pretty much just Wadly. The rest of the team shot over 80%.

Arkansas-PB already has a game this Saturday and it's possible Jackson State didn't want to play this weekend. They don't have another game until the 30th. You have to assume the two week break is for a reason.

And if we want to look at it as the glass being half full, Wadly was earning a lot of trips to the stripe.

Jason's article in the Messenger summed up the game well, and other have agreed.
My only point remains;"We need consistent play". KK scores 31 on Mon. and 8 on Wed. that's not going to get it done.
We were just plain lucky that JSU fouled as much as they did otherwise we would have lost this one.

All shooters are streaky, but I agree that Kaminski takes it to new extremes. If he was around 40% from three and 50% overall every game, we'd be a lot better off than getting 31 points one night and 0-8 another. I get that it's the nature of the beast to some extent, but 0-8 against a decent MAC team is pretty much a guaranteed loss.

Could be that JSU traveled to Miami for a Tuesday game and stayed in Ohio for our game 2 days later. To stay until Saturday might have been too costly!

They were good looks for KK, too. The one he did hit towards the end of the game was huge, though. It was at a time we really needed the bucket. With a guy like him, I have no problems with him trying to shoot his way out of a slump. One goes down, he can get hot and rip off 3-4 quickly.

I hear your point with regard to the other team. I preach it all the time when discussing others desire for better opponents. That said, ZERO Saturday games in December? No way every single team potentially considered for the December schedule was unwilling/unable to come on a weekend date. Especially when you consider in years past it's been a non-issue.

So schedule someone other than JSU who would play on the weekend and give yourselves the chance to sell more tickets and food. Everyone knows Ohio sells more tickers, and makes more money on Saturdays.

and if the game was scheduled on Saturday there would be people complaining about scheduling a bball game on the same day as our bowl game. It's always something..

From my angle the pass to Wadly was a Jaaron turnover, it was a whipped missile behind Wadly as he cut and could only put one hand back to touch. But I agree with your first sentence, and the refs weren't helping with the flow. At times I had no idea even why there were whistles, especially late in the game. I continue to be amazed (and impressed?) that this team can look awful but we get the W and the final stats show double-doubles and almost double-doubles and lines from Jaaron like 17-8-6. He's averaging 8 assists per game (an apg number DJ never reached over a season and boy did we gush and gush over DJ, deservedly), it's just his TOs (5 officially last night) that make me shake my head.

Boxscore is showing 9 of those offensive rebounds (20 total) were team rebounds meaning rebounds out of bounds off us. Not sure I've ever seen a total that high. Hard to tell listening to the radio broadcast but it sure sounded like we were getting outworked.

No, from my angle the pass was definitely in front of him, hit him in the hands. Was it a fastball, yes, but he has to catch that ball for the dunk. There was nothing wrong with the pass from where I was sitting and I had a good angle for it. You might be thinking of the pass he threw between Wadley and Treg late in the game, that one was bad. But none were as bad as Gollon's bounce pass on the break.

All that led to 68 FG attempts for JSU...42 for us. I don't remember ever seeing a disparity that big for FG attempts. Especially in a win.

My very brief summary of this game: We thought it was our birthright to win this game and we could just go through the motions and win it going away. JSU was fired up and played with as much hustle as any team I've seen in a long, long time. In the end, we had enough edge in the talent area to win this ugly game, but we really didn't deserve it because of the way we played. Yes, I'm glad we won, but we'll need a lot more focus to win most MAC games.
