I believe I heard JSU had 18 offensive rebounds? I knew it was a lot but...wow. Couple those with the huge number of tipped rebounds we didn't control going out of bounds and the turnovers, and they got a lot of extra possessions.
Boxscore is showing 9 of those offensive rebounds (20 total) were team rebounds meaning rebounds out of bounds off us. Not sure I've ever seen a total that high. Hard to tell listening to the radio broadcast but it sure sounded like we were getting outworked.
All that led to 68 FG attempts for JSU...42 for us. I don't remember ever seeing a disparity that big for FG attempts. Especially in a win.
It happens more than you think particularly when one team spends a lot more time at the free throw line than the other which was the case last night (38-18). If I recall last year in the game we beat Miami by 30 they took 20 more shots than us or close to it.

Burn. The. Tape.

That was one of the ugliest, sloppiest, most flow-less games I have seen in some time. Jackson St ran the four corners for an extended period of time in the 1st half, for cryin' out loud. Clanked free throw after clanked free throw. I saw three turnovers that were credited to Jaaron when his guys just weren't paying attention or couldn't handle a pass for a dunk. His find of Wadley in the second half was a gorgeous pass and it went right through Wadley's hands out of bounds. I believe I heard JSU had 18 offensive rebounds? I knew it was a lot but...wow. Couple those with the huge number of tipped rebounds we didn't control going out of bounds and the turnovers, and they got a lot of extra possessions. It also got pretty chippy for a few minutes, good to see our guys keep their heads when that happened. Tony played foul free for a half...then picked up 3 in about 9 minutes to start the second half.

I was having flashbacks to the Winthrop game in 2012. Glad we got a W, felt like an L was coming most of the night.
From my angle the pass to Wadly was a Jaaron turnover, it was a whipped missile behind Wadly as he cut and could only put one hand back to touch. But I agree with your first sentence, and the refs weren't helping with the flow. At times I had no idea even why there were whistles, especially late in the game. I continue to be amazed (and impressed?) that this team can look awful but we get the W and the final stats show double-doubles and almost double-doubles and lines from Jaaron like 17-8-6. He's averaging 8 assists per game (an apg number DJ never reached over a season and boy did we gush and gush over DJ, deservedly), it's just his TOs (5 officially last night) that make me shake my head.
No, from my angle the pass was definitely in front of him, hit him in the hands. Was it a fastball, yes, but he has to catch that ball for the dunk. There was nothing wrong with the pass from where I was sitting and I had a good angle for it. You might be thinking of the pass he threw between Wadley and Treg late in the game, that one was bad. But none were as bad as Gollon's bounce pass on the break.
But he was moving towards the basket and the ball went off of one hand and straight out-of-bounds behind him, not sure how that could have happened if the ball was delivered in front of him. I was mid-court lower bowl but I guess I could have not had a great angle? Anyway, not a big deal but when watching that play I faulted JS more than WM.

It's amazing to me how anyone on here is critical of 7-3 after going 10-20 a year ago. Last year the players didn't get along, guys were "hurt" all the time, they were selfish and Saul looked like he was going to hurl at the way his team was NOT moving the ball. This year we have guys who all genuinely like each other. If you watch them play and specifically watch the highlights you will see smiles from everyone. They have 7 wins already with 2 more likely for a 9-3 non-con record. We've been competitive with three other solid teams in losses. Who cares about turns from a guy who goes 17 and 8? Who cares about some 3 point misses or lack of bench points. WE ARE WINNING!!!! Let's embrace this fun-loving group.

?????

So this is a question that we've run around and around before, but I have to ask, are you suggesting we shouldn't critically analyze and discuss individual games and performances but instead just cheer for all the positives? Or that we shouldn't critique games this season because last year we sucked? That we should just "embrace" this D1 college basketball mid-major team regardless of their play because they all smile and they're "fun-loving"?

?????

You've been on here enough to know that this board doesn't exist because people just want to cheer for the things OUr teams do well. Our point guard is averaging five turnovers per game, IMHO that number has to come down for the team to continue progressing, regardless of whether or not he's also averaging 17 and 8. This team is doing well, but like all teams it can do better and I hope to see it continue to progress throughout the season.

I am happy with this team at this point in the season.

It would not surprise me if this team won the MAC.
It would not surprise me if this team went .500 in the MAC.

If we go into conference play 8-4 or 9-3 I believe the team should be able to win at least half of their MAC games.

My biggest concern is the lack of production from our bench right now. But maybe Saul is wanting to give our primary fine tuning play before the real games start.

Bobcat 1998, right on brother! I have only missed one homer and ( as a former high school basketball coach) fully appreciate the obvious fact that these young men truly enjoy being each other's teammates. This will hold us in good stead as the season progresses.
Let's enjoy the ride. Don't be overwhelmed by the current record. We probably will not win the regular season title. Let's just hope that we continue to progress and improve to the point where we believe that we can win the conference tournament.
We are on the right track. Let's enjoy the process and see how far it will take us in the subsequent weeks. Go 'Cats!!

if you want to be #1 you've got to be odd.
