Guys, every year is unique! How'bout this from the more recent past (last year)...

F10 CENTRAL MICHIGAN* L 68-57
F14 at Miami* L 77-66
F18 at Western Michigan* L 80-69
F21 KENT STATE* L 64-51
F24 BOWLING GREEN* L 76-65
F27 at Akron* L 70-58
M3 at Buffalo* L 93-66

Amazing how 3 losses can turn into 4-5-6 and the season is less than a success! So, is this game important? Well, if we don't wanna have 4 losses in a row or 5 or 6 it is.

But, then, this is the MAC! A one bid conference where the only thing that counts is March!

Wilder, from what little I've seen of WMU and other MAC teams not named Ohio, in my opinion, is the best PG in the MAC. Simmons, while not far behind, lacks the range that Wilder has.

This comment surprised me a bit:

So, is Tuesday's matchup important? Yes.

Is it a "must-win"? For Phillips, it's not.

"We need to win so we're feeling good about ourselves again, we need to win for our psyche," Phillips said. "We need to win to stay within some contact of the rest of the pack. But until it's tournament time and your season is truly done, if you lose, then you should be able to overcome any setback."

We're 1-3 in conference play, we are at home and Saul says the above???? I disagree with him ... going to 1-4 at this stage and I think 2 road games coming up and things could get real ugly IMO.
2010
Kent St.60-62 L (0-1, 9-6)
Akron 62-67 L (0-2, 9-7)

@BGSU 57-65 L (0-4, 9-9)

I'll wager $$$$$ this isn't 2010 and we have virtually no chance of repeating that run with this team.

I had video that was freezing at the start. I killed it and then restarted it at ESPN3 and it's been fine since then.

OK bn9...KK came back big in the last 10 minutes, However I was concerned about his 5 TO's earlier in the game as it was hurting us.

My point clearly went over your head. If you think the talent this year is close to the 2010 team I don't know what to say. Go revisit the roster from that year. And look closely at this year.

Bobcats win. Big games from Simmons, Campbell, Kaminski, Block and very solid minutes from Laster. Bobcats navigated some foul trouble but the bench played very well. Block was tremendous in several ways in this game. He earned a lot more minutes in this one. Campbell was sensational on the defensive boards. 16 boards !!!!!

You can look back now that their time has come and gone, and say there was a lot of talent. Was it so clear in January of 2010?

Who is to say when you look back 5 years from now you won't see talent here?

Been waiting on Laster to get extended minutes. He started and was decent as a freshman and yet he didn't sniff the court early on. I know Dartis being hurt is the reason he's getting time but it makes me feel better for the future to have Block, Laster, Wadley and Khari off the bench after Dartis is back.

LMAO! Okay, I have to ask, what is the reason for the whole "Bang" and "Oh Baby" when you post? They make me laugh out loud when I read them so I actually like that you do them, because they really do make me laugh. It just got me wondering what's behind them? As in, where did that come from and why you do it? Just curious, but keep them coming. LOL
You need to listen to the radio broadcast of basketball games to understand.
Might it have something to do with Russ?

Now to the game tonight. Laster well deserved as Russ choice as Difference Maker. Guys stepping up. I saw more grit and effort on D for about 30 mins - about 10 mins of slacking up a bit/not hustling back on D. Block is getting into a groove - both sides of the court. Gollon more plusses than minuses tonight. KK may just be getting into a rhythm. Campbell very impressive - he looked to be more determined to me tonight - and that left hand soft shot over the big in the lane - Wow, another weapon in his offensive arsenal. Simmons - kinda night we have come to "expect" - still upside minimizing TO's as the O gels. Setty still sick - so he just had guts on the floor tonight (and tossed some of them in the locker room during the game). Wad another few minutes of hustle and energy - and still at the top of the MAC in blocks.

There will be ups and downs moving forward - but I think the ups will get better, and the downs will be less often and less dramatic.

I think a couple of things became clear last night, at least in my eyes. Maybe it depended on the matchups WMU gave Ohio, but here's what I noticed:

-Mike Laster needs more minutes. Say what you want about his unpolished shooting ability or offensive prowess, that guy busted his butt last night. He was all over the place and made huge plays. From what I can tell, he's clearly one of the best perimeter defenders on the team. He didn't let his man get into the lane most of the night. That was a huge plus.

-If Tony Campbell stays out of foul trouble he's an All-MAC player. I know this is pretty obvious, but watching him dominate in the lane when he can stay on the floor is a treat.

-Wadley is a great asset. He may not quite be where he needs to be yet, but he does play some big minutes off the bench to spell Tony. Having him in the lane to distract shooters makes everyone around him better. Whatever he brings offensively is just a bonus.

-The lineup of Jaaron, Gavin, Mike, KK and Tony was probably my favorite lineup of the night. Each guy had a role and they each played it perfectly. I hope we see it more often.

It didn't go over my head at all. And I'm guessing you didn't think the talent was all that impressive in 2010 at this point in that season. Basketball teams are not stagnant entities. They change over time, particularly with young teams. The 2010 team changed considerably. This year's team has changed from game to game. I think you sell the talent on this team extremely short. There are a lot of things we don't do well right now but that doesn't mean over time we can't improve on those things. All it will take is for us to improve on defense and a guy like Kenny Kaminski to go on a real hot streak and we are going to be tough to beat. Don't know if that will happen but it might. And it doesn't change the fact that last night wasn't a must win. It was definitely important but if we had lost the season isn't over.

How about that game by Gavin Block last night? Did he even come out in the second half? With Western really focusing on pressuring Jaaron he was huge in QBing the offense. He really worked hard on getting Tony the ball. He hustled. He set picks. He played defense. He got in Western's head a little bit. Also love how Tony looked for him to beat the press after Jaaron struggled with it on a few possessions. Also loved Mike Laster's game last night.
