The real problem is walking around the outside ramps takes me about 45 more seconds, which makes the popcorn 45 seconds more stale. Just when you think the popcorn couldn't get worse, OUPD pounces.....

The real problem is this is a serious issue because our piss poor concession stands have nothing better than popcorn to offer

(sadly not as sarcastic as one would hope)

I work in a tangentially related national security environment. I can assure you that when it comes to motivation by paranoia, no sector rates higher than security professionals/law enforcement agencies. That's what they get paid for. Where you see inconvenience they see a "managed environment".

Do you really want it any other way when you're in the crowd?

If you want to talk about "security" without substance, let's talk about TSA; a highly visible, "representative", security agency operating with inadequate funding, subpar training standards and management by tenured civil service employees. 'Nuff said.

There were no barriers for the women's game tonight vs Akron. Has there been a change and will this carry over to men's games as well?

So if that's the case, is "safety" really the primary concern for the barriers during men's games? If it were, they'd have put up those barriers for every event in the building to include women's hoops, wrestling, and volleyball. I'm interested to see how it looks tomorrow night.

I assume they decide which events are more likely to be targeted and apply a higher level of security for those events. I groaned when I first saw the new barriers. But, it hasn't impacted my experience at all.

OUPD chief is known to be hyper-conservative. This seems to have his fingerprints all over it.

I've been told that he is very well schooled in security issues and is working closely with Homeland Security in setting up his procedures. That being said, I'm personally upset that I can't walk along the outside ring to get to the front door when I'm forced to part in the back and then have to walk around the front up and down and up and down the asphalt ring that is farther out from the Convo. It seems to me that there should be a better solution that would be more user friendly to fans and not sacrifice security, but what do I know?

You can go right in the student entrance in the back with your ticket. That's what many of us started doing a couple games ago.

I don't know why this is such an issue, if you park in the back, go in the student entrance. If you park near the front, go in the front entrance. If you park on either side then walk 1/4 of the way around the building to one of these entrances! And for the record, I for one think the current OU Police Chief does a fantastic job.

I was able to do that once. More recently, I was told by one of the yellow-clad guards in no uncertain terms that I could not go up the ramp to the student entrance and had to walk around on the up and down asphalt outerbelt.

Jeff, you are better than that. I'm very disappointed in your snarky response to a serious statement about an issue that was being politely and reasonably discussed.

That's odd, I've entered on the student side for every game this year except one with no problems, and I haven't seen any guards anywhere near the bottom of the ramps to the two entrances who keep people from walking up them. How does a guard know who's a student and who isn't? If it's age based I'd love them to try and stop me and I'll pull out my old student ID, get their name and tell them I was suing for age discrimination.

Disappointed in you, too, Alan. Do you get some kind of perverse pleasure out of bringing up irrelevant material. You know things that might have been slightly funny in original context, sound just downright stupid when repeated over and over. And, in terms of the FG, apparently you did not learn anything from the last discussion about another FG and the deceptions created by various camera angles. It may come as a real surprise to you, but your perceptions are not always right. I'm not here saying that I was right or wrong on that issue, just that you never supplied any evidence that was convincing. You tried to present video evidence, but it wasn't at an angle that led to any definitive conclusion. In short, on both of these items you just like to take the seat of scornful, which is your right, but it's not really such a bright idea. I'll leave you with this one thought: the next time you see my wife and I in the Rohr Room mention the shuttle bus business in your scornful tone of voice in her presence. I dare you. You may come out with a black eye. And, I know your too much of gentleman to hit back at a lady.

Perhaps Bobcat TV Youtube page can get video from the Rohr room.

I'm completely in agreement with this. I'll reserve judgement until after tonight, and carefully word an email tomorrow if necessary. I am fine with the measures for additional security. I'm not necessarily in agreement that this is the best, or the only, way.

Carl at your age you shouldn't post or edit after midnight. Leave that time to the youngsters on here.

Well...all of us have our foibles on here and we just laugh at ourselves. Just like with me, any time I post something about weather I get some snarky comments. And there is a Fake Jeff out there. So what I said about shuttles was just an attempt to laugh and make you laugh.

I wouldn't think twice about making a shuttle comment in public....it's quite possibly one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen in print.

I get the security issue. My complaint is that the "outer ring" of the Convo is poorly lit and with the snow and freezing temps we've had in the last month or so it is an accident and a lawsuit waiting to happen. If indeed the powers-that-be are going to make this the "new norm" then additional lighting needs to be put in place immediately. If that means making arrangements for generator lighting on game nights, then so be it. The only lighting available now is indirect lighting from either the parking lots or the Convo itself...nothing for that outer ring.

AGREED. And that's kind of my argument - if safety is the motivator for this change, then 1) show it by making those walkways better, 2) send some semblance of an explanation as to why they're doing this.

And third, Tell us about the future use of solar technology to power the new turbo hand dryers, state of the art concessions stands, along with the 4k Ultra HD scoreboard we're anticipating. ;)
Totally agree. I'm gonna figure out how to find handicap parking and ingress. Kind of nervous about the walk around to get in. Butler was a nightmare the other night. Happy it's nice and warm. Life changes, got to adjust and plan ahead.

If prefer dysons but Xcel will work http://www.exceldryer.com /

If the barriers are there tonight, I may or may not barge thru them screaming freedom. We'll just have to see how it goes.
