So does anyone know exactly what about this move makes it safer?
I don't know, but my assumption is that the large number of doors all along the Convo concourse make it easy for someone to pop one open for others with nefarious purposes. That's definitely a risk. Having the outer concourse clear of most traffic makes it easier to monitor any activity via direct visual observation and/or cameras.
But for this to be effective, then they'd have to keep this monitored 24/7 on non-game days. To me, there has to be a better way than making your most important patrons, the Bobcat Club and season ticket holders, walk the longest way possible around The Convo to go in the front door. Why not just station the guys in yellow inside the doors to keep someone from opening one for someone on the outside? Or, lock all but a couple of them until the game has started? At least if its raining it gives the patrons the cover of that overhang.
And, I observed a resident student of The Convo getting hassled by security at the last home game in a less than cordial way to show his Student ID.
Bottom line for me: The intent is good, for sure, but the execution of it is not customer friendly in any way in my opinion. At least if they're gonna do it, they could bother to send a briefing to those who buy tickets.
(They haven't that I'm aware of. Did I miss something?)
