all the good feelings from the tourney and the positive outlook went up in smoke at 630 am
Jaylon Tate, a former OHIO recruit, was booked in for punching his Illinois Athlete GF in the face.
http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2016-03-12/update-... the board is in full melt and responses like this one are resplendent
"This is it for me. I no longer see any redeeming factor to keep Groce as our coach. Poor recruiting record, poor offensive and defensive coaching schemes and execution, recruiting poor character players, unable to encourage his scholarship players to behave within moral rules off the court. So he's a nice guy, but honestly, what is there to argue for keeping him?
And yes, both Tate and Black have to be dismissed. Messages have to be sent. "
Interesting that the Illini board climbed right in and threw out AB's arrest record at first then went through Jay Kinney and stevie fresh as well.
I do not think that the new AD will can him but I do think he will have his program on lock down. I know he starts each practice with life lessons and talks constantly about social media, personal presentation and perception and is good about telling them what is acceptable and unacceptable but there seems to be a group that does not get it. Without going into details there is a lot in a program that the players do that would raise most eyebrows. Not sure he has the lack of institutional control that fans are implying and I know he is much better than MOST at putting kids in positions to excel and even though he is very good about recruiting families and high character kids he seems like he has a cloud that follows him around and sneaks up on him.
I did find some of the gallows humour entertaining. An allusion after Darius Paul's France incedent, Black pulling a knife in a club and now a DV charge to the "Fighting Illini" was pretty funny.
