JG gets a solid win tonight over the Gophers, 85-52. AP article included this:

"Illinois: The Fighting Illini have 26 Big Ten tournament victories, second most among the 14 league teams"

I realize the B10 hasn't been playing tournament games for very long, but I never would have said they were in the top 2. I wouldn't have said they were in the top 5.
How much of those wins stem from missing out on the bye and having to play the extra round(s)? Just a thought.

Glad the Illini got the big win. Rutgers basketball really is in dire straits. I'm not sure they could go .500 in the MAC right now.

Only A&M, and Mich State have more conference tournament championship game appearances than Illinois. That record isn't a fluke. Still, it's been a while.

Hasn't been that long. They were in the Championship game ten years ago.

you leaving Walker out intentionally? ... just pulling your leg. That was a gritty win.

"we want to be playing our best ball in March" was something all of his teams heard from the time they stepped on campus. A mantra he can live by... Not seeing too much negative from the crowd on the Illinois board today....the occasional "what a meltdown ...he can't coach" and similar but for the most part the boo birds are quiet right now.

Good win... Now on to tonite ....Go Ohio.

So, you're saying that beating weak teams in games with little impact on the conference championship path means little?

I have no idea what that means but ....it sounds very Trumpish.

Purdue FINALLY playing the way they should have been all year. Passing to the post, post playin inside out, bigs almost perfect inside, shooters on the edge hitting shots off great ball movement. THis is the PU team I expected to watch the entire year. Bout time.

all the good feelings from the tourney and the positive outlook went up in smoke at 630 am

Jaylon Tate, a former OHIO recruit, was booked in for punching his Illinois Athlete GF in the face. http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2016-03-12/update-...

the board is in full melt and responses like this one are resplendent

"This is it for me. I no longer see any redeeming factor to keep Groce as our coach. Poor recruiting record, poor offensive and defensive coaching schemes and execution, recruiting poor character players, unable to encourage his scholarship players to behave within moral rules off the court. So he's a nice guy, but honestly, what is there to argue for keeping him?

And yes, both Tate and Black have to be dismissed. Messages have to be sent. "

Interesting that the Illini board climbed right in and threw out AB's arrest record at first then went through Jay Kinney and stevie fresh as well.

I do not think that the new AD will can him but I do think he will have his program on lock down. I know he starts each practice with life lessons and talks constantly about social media, personal presentation and perception and is good about telling them what is acceptable and unacceptable but there seems to be a group that does not get it. Without going into details there is a lot in a program that the players do that would raise most eyebrows. Not sure he has the lack of institutional control that fans are implying and I know he is much better than MOST at putting kids in positions to excel and even though he is very good about recruiting families and high character kids he seems like he has a cloud that follows him around and sneaks up on him.

I did find some of the gallows humour entertaining. An allusion after Darius Paul's France incedent, Black pulling a knife in a club and now a DV charge to the "Fighting Illini" was pretty funny.

Wow! I feel for Coach Groce. I know, he's being paid a lot of money but I have to think the job hasn't been nearly as enjoyable as he had hoped it would be. Hope it turns around for him.

Looking at this thinking what OUr former Ozone would do with that....Pollitz twins hated what we did to them. This would be fodder

http://static.news-gazette.com/sites/all/files/imagecache...

2000 bucks for bond. Looking at the background I would be saying "get me the heck out of here"

No way Groce can survive this....no way. What is that 6 guys arrested since he took over? Throw in domestic violences arrests and that's a recipe for disaster for any college coach.

Lack of institutional control=fired.

4.... and Tate arrest seems to be made up. Nunn stood beside him on Twitter yet 3 days later argues with a female about money. Not sure if the woman is the mother of his child or not. http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2016-03-17/illinis...

NOt sure what it is going to take to get these players heads out of there azz.

COach can set standards and expectations and have team meetings but at the end of the day...

Mo is still gonna run around with Devo and shoot airsoft guns
AB still gonna punch a bouncer

and other things no one has heard about. Knuckleheads are knuckleheads.
