Boring game = boring student section.

There's about 10 kids throughout the lower bleachers with "O Zone Student Leader" shirts on. They try. Just not a lot to get excited about.

I will say the 2 bat costumes were funny.

Yup. You can't manufacture excitement. The crowd got plenty loud at natural times, and they were ready to explode for a big shot. The big shots never fell today. I think the Ozone is fine and that some people on here are obsessed with complaining about them. The student section was full and standing. They just had little to cheer about. That's not on them.

The OZONE should have been on Thompson from the start. Are there no dirt sheets handed out on the other team anymore? They need to be organized. There was a great student turnout, but they have no ide how to do the cheers. There need to be blueprints on each chant/cheer and how/when to do it. Thompson would have been T'd up for sure if the OZONE hammered him as a group.. He's a ticking time bomb. Also, what happened to the "Best Fans In the MAC" banner we used to have draped over the OZONE during starting lineups? The numbers are there, which is a start, but these kids need to create their own energy. The team should get a spark from you guys! You shouldn't have to wait on the team to give you a reason to cheer.

Sadly, I've heard it was stolen during the end of last season.

Are you serious? That banner was for everyone. What kind of students would do such a thing?

Stand for Defense - i agree with every poster here who says it needs to go. How do we get rid of it - please send an email to Schaus politely suggestion that it go. If enough people do it, it will disappear. My reasoning is that if I was a player from the other team, Id try extra hard to score as soon as possible to make all of those people sit down. We don't need to provide additional motivation to the other team to score.

Living in Athens, you learn to never be surprised. A friend of mine has now had 3 or 4 flags stolen off his home's porch on the East Side. The student theft problem (even if students perceive it as "mischief") has escalated over the last 5-10 years.

Too bad you weren't at yesterday's game, Alan. EMU player hits 1 of 2 foul shots 14 seconds into the game. . . and all the sheep sat down.

That's one of the things I hope for - a quick shooting foul. If Lou didn't have to say Stand for D, it would die in about two games. I'm sending an email to JS and I hope others will join me. In my mind, traditions evolve naturally as opposed to having them dictated. Lou doesn't even have to say stand for Stand Up and Cheer - it's a tradition. Remember though, he has to work from a timed script.

Sometimes we're a narrow-minded bunch. The things 'we' focus on never cease to amaze me, and I guess that's one small reason why we're 'small time'. In watching the presidential forums, I had the same feeling a couple of times.

Couldn't care less about the stand for defense thing one way or another. The part of it I don't like currently, is now I find myself gazing around at the half dozen or so of my Bobcat friends that are so in opposition to it, that I'm watching them sit and lean around the standing person in front of them to see, grumbling and complaining to anyone around them, that I sometimes miss the play on the court! O well.

"Standing" never has, nor ever will, do anything to motivate OUr team or disrupt the opposing team.

"NOISE" on the other hand.......

Did anyone else catch the older man (not college age) who was sitting in the Ozone area right next to the band turn around and yell at the Ozone to say something or do something. He went on a little (justifiable) rant at them. It was during a foul shot I think- at least during a time when it was extremely quiet. He then proceeded to be the person that started a good deal of the noise that came from that area during the game.

Could have been at any point of the game! The crowd was small for a Saturday ( maybe due to the idiot meteorologists) and quiet!

Late in the game I was standing up imploring the team to make a defensive stand. I was the only person standing in Platinum. Amazing.

Back in our day, something like that would never have happened. The temerity of this modern generation!

My kids thought the ozone was awesome. Student section at my son's HS was featured this past Friday as perhaps the best in area on local tv news. Hes not easily impressed.

Perhaps we have OUr bar set very high?

The game was a bit dreary at times, but it was an ugly game. Didnt flow well. Lots of missed shots and fouls, no breakaway baskets. No dunks.

He was the best OZONER yesterday. There are about 10 guys that really get into it. The rest just need to be lead. They were there, that's a start. They just don't know the chants and the cheers. There needs to be a script handed out with the newspapers before the game explaining when to do each chant/cheer. Fouls should be the easiest. YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU ahhhhhh You SUCK!!! Pretty simple. Also, get in line with the band. The timing between students and 110 members was wayyyy off.

Come on Jeff, our generation stole Holiday Inn signs and put them on fraternity house roofs and rearranged signs on the hill on the 682 exit visible from Peden from ribs at the Ritz to show us your t^&%. That is a true story.

"T>&TS AT THE RITZ (they did not want to see my t>&ts....). That was a real ad message back then. My GF at the time worked there and I knew all the service staff well....and, um....let's just say the portions were not skimpy....

He has been a spontaneous Ozone leader several times over the years. I have to assume someone on here knows who that guy is. But the fact that a group of college students needed someone who orders off the back page at Bob Evans to lead them should tell you something about the state of the Ozone.

That episode is one of the highlights of my early Bobcats gameday experience. Watching those overweight campus cops trying to climb that hill to remove the sign...incredible.

Another, more embarrassing, scene from the same era was the drunken student, wearing a leather aviator's cap, who marched out with the color guard prior to a homecoming game. If you're ever wondering why no beer sales for the general population at Peden, that one might explain it.

The winter of my sophomore year, someone hit a fire hydrant by our dorm.
They dropped off the new hydrant and were gonna install it the next day.

Several guys from the dorm decided to take the new one and put it in the second floor hall (with a stuffed dog next to it).

It stayed there till the end of Spring Quarter.
