I thought you went to Muskingum, Alan.

The fact that we need a crowd "MC" to get people to get off their asses in a close game under a minute tells you all you need to know.

No doubt, it was a boring as crap game. Ohio was sloppy, couldn't hit a shot from inside, outside or at the line. This is one of those games that will take a really good run to recover from. Like I said, the basketball version of texas state. It was just awful to watch.

I did and that's where the Holiday Inn sign story comes from. The Little Ritz story comes from playing on the days of playing on their softball team.

After stand for defense, the in game mc is the second most annoying thing that we do. In both cases, someone is telling you what to do in terms of your "cheering" at a game. Totally unnecessary.

But it works? In the last minute of the EMU game the MC had the whole convo chanting "defense." People want the crowd to be more rowdy, but only if it comes from "within"?

This used to come from the cheerleaders and before that a fan in the stands starting it. Why do we have to have a guy with an "artificial voice" starting it. It just seems so contrived.

Every minor league or major league game ive attended (minus a few at wrigley)has had the MC on the mic thing during play stoppages. I dont think folks under 40 even give it a second thought.

I thought he was an asset. Personally i was gut punched after the double technicals, momentum certainly swung the other way bigly.

+1. The fact that those bemoaning a lack of noise also complain about the MC urging fans to make noise is the definition of irony.

I'm okay with the MC.. A couple years ago, we had an awesome one that was really great at what he did. The one we have now is pretty good. I liked him in the final minute against EMU

If you're referring to me, I'm complaining about the NEED for an MC urging fans to make noise. If I were down there, I'd be the old guy shaming the students for their overall suckiness.

Former Convo MC guy now does it at Progressive Field, said hello to him during his gig in my section at an Indians-Tigers game this past fall.

Convo vs JAR

I haven't been to the Convo this season--what type of music is played before the game?

Hard to beat the Zips band pre-game. Most showed up 40 minutes before the game and played nearly non-stop. Tune after tune of jazz, show and rock standards and each game you are likely to hear different songs.

What is the reason the Bobcat band is not behind a basket?

Access, the large tunnel is an emergency exit, and to put risers behind the North baskets would not allow access to the garage storage when chairs and such are stored.

Yes, plus it makes our student section seem less desolate.

There is a stronger word for this than "irony." Hint, it begins with the letter "h." We are all very good at this on BA at times.

Alan, I read your explanation of your student hijinks. The first part makes sense and clearly happened at Muskingum. The second part of that sentence has me baffled. It clearly took place at OHIO, but I still don't understand what your involvement was. I actually remember the incident myself -- though strictly as an observer.

Haranguing about how to be a fan and tales of "when I was your age" from middle-aged men is a surefire way to make the gameday experience more fun for students.

Bingo - that's why I go too. All the other stuff isn't really necessary. Less is often more.

EDIT: I see the official thread on the football side now. Still warrants a mention here.

Get Pepsi Co's name all over it and pay for some of it. Maybe now is the time to get beer in the building and get bidders on who will sponsor it beyond just Pepsi.

Depending on the size of the advertising space, you could easily get multiple sponsors on there to pay for that thing. And that doesn't even include the video ads you can run pregame, during timeouts, halftime and post game. This stuff usually almost pays for itself.

When I was interning at Xavier, they even had a phone number that fans could text and at halftime the texts would show up on the video board. That was pretty cool. For a while it was my job to pick which texts went up there. There were some rather interesting ones that didn't get picked haha.
