Attacking Lou is uncalled for. He frequents these boards and I'm sure would be disappointed in the commentary. He announces probably 80+ games a year getting almost nothing in return. He's part of the tapestry that makes games fun and exciting for the vast majority of fans...except for a few grumpy middle-aged men on a message board (granted, I can be one of them at times).

There's always things to improve, but the games are a fun, family-friendly place. Season ticket sales and revenue are way up. The family of 4 that sits in front of us at games could honestly care less about the videoboard or pretzels. They were excited to catch a t-shirt and get a high-five from Treg Setty. My cursory observations says that they are not alone.

I didn't like Lou's shtick at first, but it grew on me. And now I'm sad thinking about the day someone else will be behind that microphone.

Do you ever hear the PA guys at other schools? They are routinely terrible. A team hits a three 30 seconds into the game and some jamoke is screeching "THHHHHAAAREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" in an attempt to break nearby glassware. They're just parroting what 95% of everyone else does because they don't know any other way. Lou's able to convey emotion and the feeling of the moment without damaging hearing aids.

Calling him unprofessional, frankly, is uncalled for. When does he get a name wrong? When does he take a play off? He's ready to go day in and day out. When his throat is shot, he rampages through a bag of cough drops and powers through.

You don't see someone like Lou at any other school because he wouldn't exist at any other school. He's indelibly, uniquely Ohio and Athens. That's what I love about it. It would be a short, short list of people with that job who love it more than he does. That love shines through in his work. Like it or not, can you deny he's enjoying it? I like that he says weird things and occasionally goes off script to crack at someone in the audience. That's freakin' Athens through and through. I want more of that in the world, not less.

Could not agree more on this post. Lou is a treasure, even if he doesn't fully appreciate the United States Navy! ;-)

Wow, JSF comes out of hiatus for the win here.

I don't want to be the Cleveland Cavaliers. I don't want to be Ohio State. I want to be Ohio...and I think Lou is a damn good part of what we are.

I like Lou. Been in a lot of arenas and heard a lot of PA guys; He is pretty good...... I liked him right off but then again.... he may be one of those "acquired tastes" for some...

Gotta chime in that I like Lou too. Same with Russ and Rob: These are guys passionate about Ohio athletics, and they are all professional. Russ yelling "Bang!" is his trademark, and Lou has his signature lines too. Bless all those guys.

Back to the scoreboard: YES! YES! YES! Count me as one who believes this would be a GIANT plus to every aspect of the gameday experience. And I firmly believe it would make a difference in recruiting too. A kid walking into that building now has to look at our tiny video boards and laugh. Even if a new center-hung isn't high-def and state-of-the-art, ANY videoboard up high would be a massive upgrade. It would make the building look legitimate. I love all the other ideas folks have added, but THIS is the make-or-break component to any Convo upgrade.

I asked Schaus a couple of years ago how much it would cost, and he said $1 million. In the big picture, that's not that much. We need a new scoreboard in Peden too, but the need in the Convo is a hundred times more.

On the subject of the Boards. The new ones at Balls are nice. They added boards inside the boards for the folks down low. Bottom of the article has a view http://www.thestarpress.com/story/sports/college/ball-sta... /

Lou is perfect for Ohio and the Convo. End of discussion.

I've always enjoyed the PA announcer for the MAC Tournament, whoever that is. He used to be the Cavs full-time PA announcer too. Anyone know his name?

End of discussion? Why? Because you say so?

Sounds like there might be one or more on here who disagree. Personally, I have no opinion on the matter, but believe there are two opinions among posters on here.

I think that's Akron's announcer. I'll pass on him.

"Time out. Time out on the floor."

PS I miss JSF on here. Dang, we've lost a lot of good posters on here when you think about it.

And the more people complain about stand for defense, the more I get a kick out of doing it. It's silly I'll admit, maybe only surpassed in silliness by the non-stop complaining about it.

I think that guy only moved to Akron after he was booted from the Cavs. He was definitely not at Akron my freshman year there in 2002.

Oh, here's a story on him in the Canton Repository. Jeff Shreve.

Ha! That "time out on the floor" line is what always comes to my mind when I think about the PA at the MAC tournament. I actually think that guy (Jeff Shreve) is pretty good.

On the "stand for defense", I'd also like to see it replaced with something else. In the meantime, some of us in our section have continued standing but we also make "baaaaaa" sounds like sheep.

haha. Mostly from old PMs. But some people (flomo, esp) had great insight, or you knew they had some insider connection(s).

Almost all our ideas cost money. If things look nickel-and-dimey its because athletics only has nickels and dimes.

Show me the money.......
Organization doesn't cost money. Coming up with smooth gameday event planning with current staff in place should not be that tough.

Stuff like having the band play AFTER Lou finishes on the PA mic instead of over top of him.

It's a very disjointed, stale feel at a game. While I agree money is needed for some of the cosmetic upgrades, the planning portion could be a lot better.

44 is spot on; some problems to be solved or advantages that can be instituted require thinking and little or no money.

"We haven't the money so we have to think." Ernst Rutherford
"Even if we have the money, we have to think." Monroe's Corollary

Anyone know the all-in (shipping, installation, etc) cost for a hanging scoreboard?

CAbobcatcat and bobcatsquared strike me as people who are not happy unless they're unhappy and making others unhappy.

Lou stays. Lou is O H I O.

Halfway through this emu game, it's clear the convo's biggest problem is a lousy disinterested student section. They honestly could not suck much worse.
