I think Lou does a great job. I like his voice. I like his energy. And his willingness to sit there for hours and hours and do that job during the high school tournament is a testament to his enthusiasm for basketball in the area. I don't like stand up for defense, but I can live with it.
And there is a reason he does not post often!
Of all the real and perceived problems with the Convo, Lou never even crossed my mind. I think he does a great job. The only thing I hate is "stand for defense," and I'm pretty sure he's just following marching orders from Schaus there.
I see what fsohio09 is saying to a degree, and I think some of his thoughts have merit. While I like Lou's work and voice, and have for years, I have always found it to be rather sad that some within the stands have to wait for Lou's orders to cheer, stand up and yell when the game dictates it, Stand up and Cheer at the under-8, etc. When the 110 starts playing the fight song at the under-8, it should be a given, tradition, that this is what we do without being told to.
And I can kind of agree we don't need to know who made the bucket from the PA announcer in most buildings. But in Athens, without a functional scoreboard anywhere in the building, it's actually quite useful for people who aren't die hards like many of us.
I've said it once probably in this thread, but I agree the Stand for Defense needs to die soon. Options for creatively replacing it change exponentially when you have some kind of video boards in the building, and audio to match. I've been in buildings, UC's 5/3 Arena for example, where there's a "noise meter". There could be a pregame challenge to light up the noise meter as one example. It could be sponsored, and if the crowd lights it up, coupons could be dropped from the cat walks.
