I wondered the same thing? Saul enjoy watching the MVP in action he forgot to try to put someone else on the hot shooter? Did Laster get a crack at trying to slow him down? Visions of Zips Harney causing DJ fits; a big guy on a guard.

I saw Keane play several games at YSU and thought he was a good player, but never thought I was seeing a great player. Kudos to him for getting better and transforming himself into a great player.

Russ just described Keene as a player he'd never seen before in the MAC. I'm not sure I don't disagree with him. There's no shot he can't make on the court tonight. Practially unguardable.

At this point, there's no way he's not the MAC POY, right?
He's got it locked up.
He would have easily won POY even if Tony was healthy and we would have also lost this game even if Tony was healthy.
And he was trash talkin' and pointin' at Tone all game...but he backed up his talk....

I was impressed to see SP in a very animated and terse way let the assts know that they had to get the bigs playing smarter. Too many reaching fouls, including reaching for rebounds where they were not in good position to start with....

Marcus Keene might be the most meteoric players in MAC history. Think about Gary Trent was a known hot commodity when he came to Athens, he didn't want to go to OSU. Dave Jamerson didn't want to play in Columbus either, also because of their coaching situation, and Dan Palombizio went to Purdue before he transferred to Ball State. All of these guys were known commodities. Keene seems to have come out of nowhere. The only people more unhappy than Central Michigan opponents are the coaching staff, players, students and fans of Youngstown State. Jim Tressel has got to be thinking how did this happen?

Can't really do much about last night. Keene is on another planet right now. It's almost incomprehensible what he's doing. He's making step back, fall away, non-dominant shooting angle contested jumpers between 23-27 feet consistently...which shouldn't even be a thing. The one he hit last night in front of his own bench when he was falling backwards was just crazy.

I guess the only thing I'm upset about is that he was hitting those with guys in his face, and our guys had wide open looks and couldn't knock them down. A little frustrating to watch even with Ohio scoring 87 points, which usually notches you a win.

I'm pulling for the Bobcats to make some noise in March, but man would it be fun to watch Keene and Rayson dance against the big boys and knock down these types of shots.

Agreed. No way in the world Isaiah Johnson is winning that over Keene as of right now. The nation's leading scorer wins conference POY, or there's a fix on. Period, end of story.

It was almost like watching old movie special effects of baseballs being hit or thrown. Like the baseball that "hit" Dan Dailey as Dizzy Dean in "The Pride of St. Louis." It was hard to believe the shots he made went in on their own. Are we certain that the CGI people at ESPN3 didn't have something to do with it?

He has great talent but I'm not sure anybody in the NBA will take him because of his lack of height.

Last night was frustrating only because we already had two home MAC losses. CMU and Keane were unconscious. If there's one thing that sticks in my craw, it's the offensive rebounds and second, third and fourth chances, but you just have to tip your cap to Keane. He was unreal. Last night would have been easier to deal with if we didn't lose games to Toledo and EMU already.

Buddy Mayborg should have been the assist leader in last night's game. He allowed Keene, obviously a ridiculously great shooter, to push off/elbow thrust on over half his shots. Saul kept yelling at him that he changed the game by allowing this.

I will say this, Marcus Keene just simply made shots last night that you have just tip your hat to, and move on. We had one great camera shot of Keene after he made a distance three shaking his head in disbelief, and in the background, Jordan Dartis, who was right on him on the shot, shaking his head as well.

Russ and I talked after the game and both had the same thought, Keene just made shots.

As we close in on Cleveland, I still think this is an Ohio team that can cause some problems at the "Q". Other than Akron and Toledo, there are no teams that have guys that can dominate in the paint, so match ups will be key.

I want also to send kudos to our ESPN 3 student production crew. They are doing great work, and are a pleasure to be around. All have bright futures in this business if they choose that path.

Great job last night, Marty. However, Newark is no longer undefeated after a 1-point loss at Pick Central Saturday night.

Speaking of Keene: watching him as a basketball fan and observing long-distance, with a defender in his face, early in the shot clock 3-point attempts, I'm reminded of watching Curry do the same the last few years for GS Warriors and thinking that can't be a good shot. Curry making those shots quickly changed my mind to where I'm thinking that not's a good shot by any other player on the planet not named Steph Curry. Shots Keene took and make last night, and through out this season, are bad shots by any player in the NCAA not named Keene.

Keene was not shaking his head in disbelief, that was pure confidence and telling Dartis he can't guard him. Keene is not surprised at any shot he's making.

thanks....sorry about the Newark call, I had them with a loss, and intended to say they were one of the LAST remaining unbeaten's until that loss..that must have happened during a Keene three, lol

I like your Steph Curry comparison, but Keene obviously is far from that standard. CMU coach Keno Davis told me at the shoot-around that both Keene and Braylon Rayson know the "hurdle" they face being 5'9 and trying to make the next level. They have constantly worked with both to improve all facets of each players game, especially defensively. Don't think either are, or ever will be, "lock down' players", but both have work to do on that end.

I didn't say he was "surprised"...he just had that look that reminded me of the reaction Michael Jordan had where he just shrugged and looked at the crowd with that "I'm having a night, and not much can be done to stop me" look.
