If Akron loses at Buffalo and at Kent State and we win out we are MAC Champs and #1 seed. Yes, it's a long shot, but at the very least Akron isn't playing their best ball right now. Should make for an interesting MAC tourny.
I don't think it is very much of a long shot. Of all the pieces needed, us winning at KSU is probably the toughest hurdle to clear. I'd take Buffalo & Kent to beat Akron on their home courts right now.

Zippy falls at BGSU.....The presumptive MAC champion could be in real danger of not getting that 1# seed.

As it is set up by seeding we are looking at #6 Kent State in the Quarters, #3 Buffalo in the Semis and #1 Akron in the finals. Picture perfect for good attendance and a tourney run.

Sometimes a team is just due. They hadn't beaten Akron since 2009.

2009!!!!

I wouldn't read too much into this. Akron wasn't going to go undefeated. They're going to be the #1 seed but they're one of several teams that can win three in three days. Nothing new.

That isn't that long ago until you remember, "oh yeah, they play twice a year!" Plus anything in the MAC tournament.

Teamrankings.com gives us an 8.1% chance of capturing the #1 seed and a 76.2% chance of the #2.

Overall, it gives us the best odds of winning the MAC tourney with 27.2%. The Zips come in at 22.8%.

It is definitely the "must see" route for the organizers but not the road I would prefer we take. A BG, Ball State, Akron/Buffalo run would be more appealing.

+1 ^^^ What he said....who the hell would want Kent and Buffalo in the first two games? Not this guy.

I think there's a more likely chance we may see WMU grab #3. They are on 6 game win streak and play @NIU, then home vs CMU.

If all home teams win out EXCEPT WMU wins at NIU, then the upper bracket has:

Akron
Kent
Buffalo
CMU* Depending on tiebreaker rules (but a Kent win at BGSU would secure CMU in #9)

lower bracket has

Ohio
WMU
Ball St
Toledo

And based on what I'm seeing, taking care of business is as easy as winning one of the remaining two, though obviously winning two in a row at home to head to Cleveland would be the ideal.

I'm not a big fan of backing into a post season conference tournament going 1-2 even if it attains the desired seeding. We'd be in fiNE shape if we hadn't found a way to lose at Kent.

Am I correct in my understanding that if Ohio locks up the #2 seed, then they'll be playing the late game Friday if they make the semifinals? Trying to coordinate some travel plans with work.

If we win the last 2, we're the #2 seed. Is that correct??

Correct. And I believe 1 out of 2 gets us the #2 seed as well. Team Rankings gives us a 90.7% chance of getting the 2 seed.

We win out - we get 2 seed - not

We win 1 of 2 and Ball and Kent win out - we get 4 seed

We win 1 of 2 and Ball wins out but Kent loses one - Ball gets 2. We get 3.

We win 1 of 2 and Kent wins out but Ball loses one - Kent gets 2. We get 3.

We lose out - looking at 5 seed.

Most likely chances for loss:
Ohio - tonight against Buffs - yup
Ball - tonight at Toledo - no ball wins
Kent - Friday at home against Akron - Miami beats Akron. Hopefully zips are angry and take it out on Kent.

Miami beats Akron. Can they string two games together.

Could realistically have 5 teams with 11-7 records after Friday night: Ohio/WMU/Ball/Kent/Buff

Ball State winning Friday at home vs NIU helps us on all tiebreaker scenarios...

NIU upsetting WMU tonight would be nice help.

Kent beating Akron could put them in #2 and us in #3, which would move Buffalo to #4. Might be best option now, although we could end up #2 with Kent loss, but then get #3 Buffalo in Semi's. (again assuming Ball St beats NIU, and we beat Miami)

Looks like we drop to a #4 seed if Ball State loses at home to NIU and two of the group of WMU/Ball State/Buffalo win out.

sure would be nice if the simulator was updated
