Bornacatfan just explained why you continue to play if you have the opportunity.

I'd like to not pay and go on the road...where this team seems to be better anyway. Make Road Warriors out of the youngsters. By the time they are seniors maybe go into some big houses and knock them off. Learning experiences. Coach em up. Put em in positions to learn to not lose and learn how to survive and advance in a tourney format.

Well if they get additional play, what is the goal? Simply more playing time together seems a limited outcome.

I'd like to see Dartis and Laster put on their KSU Walker shoes and take it/force it to the paint.

I don't know if it is anti-Saul but it would be very nice to instill a little crash the boards attitude. Nothing nicer than a stick back after 30 seconds of energy burned by the defense only to give up the score after a slasher makes it to the glass.

What other areas of improvement in a short period of time?

it would be sweet to be able to have more players available to play in division I games next year ..
It was an anomaly that we had 3 scholly players in redshirts including a sr and a jr who both could have helped. I really wish Wad and Khari well but hope they either move on health-wise or to another school. Gollon was in warmups and looked good im semis. We will be fine next year.

Wadley leaving is a done deal, that's where the third of our three open scholarships came from. Khari, I assume is more up in the air. If he can get a clean bill of health I think he could be a useful role player for us next year, similar to what Asown Sayles gave us his last year.

I am certainly ready to see some more games. I thought last year's run was a great builder for our team and this year, it can only help them. Maybe have Jaaron take less on his shoulders and make our other guys step up at least.

I love this idea.

Health is my #1 concern with playing more games. Obviously, more experience is beneficial - but are guys healthy enough to play? Our starting 5 took on a HEAVY load this season. Physically and mentally. Right now I see the cost of playing more games outweighing the benefits. I'll respect any decision though.

Post season should help this team. We are returning most of the team. This team has talent and needs to play quality teams.
Last year....yes....this year no. Team only has 8 players. Shut it down.
They should let Dozier play if we go to the CIT
Ha...yes...time to unleash the EDoz era! Sign me up for CIT tix!!

Maybe you two should road trip to find that JUCO big that we so desperately need. I'm sure the coaching staff values your well trained scouting eyes.

There is tremendous value in getting into the CBI/CIT if the opportunity is there. More time to work with Rodney Culver, Doug Taylor, Ellis Dozier, and every other guy who is a Frosh/Soph to help get them a little better. That, and maybe , just maybe, the team WANTS to continue to play.

If you want to be a small-picture program pass up the opportunity to keep playing.

If our guys are banged up, I'd rather not risk long-term injury. We can only push our depth so far with what we got left. If they don't go, I won't blame em. If they want to play, I'm on board completely.

I agree. I'm willing to plan a road trip to Hutchinson, KS, for the JUCO tournament. We "desperstely" need that JUCO big, even though we have two good freshmen bigs coming in plus an improved Doug Taylor.

Josh Pastner offered Vander Plas a schollie to play for him at Memphis. That should tell you something.

Very unlikely that this staff will bring in a JUCO. They generally don't believe in it.

But Vander Plas and AJ aren't true 5's....they aren't rim protectors. If I'm wrong, then please someone tell me otherwise. As of right now, we have one true 5....DT....that's it. Sure would be nice to have another 5 on the roster.

I admit I've been away from the board for a couple of days but who is banged up?

Nailed it. Really easy to negatively recruit against a program that turns down a postseason opportunity (the reason doesn't matter).

I've not seen anything about the guys in the rotation having an injury so I don't understand that concern at this point. Can a guy get hurt playing in more games? Absolutely and I don't want to see that happen, but he can also get hurt playing at Ping or the Convo the week after the season is over which most of these guys will do. There's 8 months before next season starts!!!

I think you are wrong about Gareri. He averaged 4 blocks a game as a Junior: http://www.neohiospotlight.com/aj-gareri

I couldn't find stats for this year, but I saw a few individual box scores where he had 6, 7 blocks.

At 6'9 in the MAC is about as true of a true center as it gets.

And since marshall left Kron hasnt had a rim protector per se. Hall was Kents only real big. We dont have any true 5s that atand out in the MAC

We should play in Europe this summer. AJ will not rim protect in the MAC. SP would be better off grooming ED or finding a JUCO, AJ will probably be a stretch four.

Didn't Kent State turn down a chance to play in the postseason last year?

Point is, it can be a tough call based on circumstances. I'm firmly in the Play category but not completely against the idea of packing it up and looking towards next year.

Last year was a slam dunk choice in continuing to play. This year I'm not so sure.

It shouldn't matter if it is the CBI or CIT this university should take the opportunity to play an extra game or two. What do you tell the high school players you are recruiting? We play to get in the big dance only? If we end up 2nd, 3rd or 4th in our league we will refuse to play in the post season, even though we won 19-20 games. These kids want to play and that is part of the college experience. If everyone is being realistic, NO MAC hoops team has a chance to win an NCAA championship. Butler got to the final game a few seasons ago, but Butler has the resources and plays in a league that prepares them for that type of run in the NCAA tourney. Akron has been by far the top program in the MAC the past decade, but what have they done in the NCAA tourney? As I mentioned in an another thread, the regular season MAC champ doesn't exactly get a huge advantage for the league tourney. They get a high five and nothing else. Give these young Bobcat players who will be the favorite to win the MAC regular season next winter another chance to play a few games in the post season, even if it is the CBI.

Ohio State didn't make the NIT. How fun would it be to play them in the CBI.

I don't know that OSU would even accept a CBI bid, but if they did it would be interesting.
