Mitchell, Hadaway & I think Elmore James wasn't 100% and will look good next year. We really want to keep those 5 guys. We may be sort of lucky in that they are all good enough to be good players in the MAC but not good enough to play much for a big time program. I suspect that Boals would like to keep Ike Cornish and Ajay Sheldon, but with not a lot of scholarships available for portal use, he probably wouldn't pull his hair out. I doubt Wiznitzer is going anywhere. Last year we really needed an experienced big but I wonder if getting a player similar to Jaylin Hunter isn't a more realistic goal for next year.
I'd push back a little if the standard is "very high demand". Obviously a pretty vague standard though, so understand how reasonable people can disagree.

But ultimately EJ4 regressed a bit from a very promising freshman year. The injury contributed, certainly, but by the end of season he wasn't on the floor in the most meaningful game we played. Not sure there's a market for him to move up, though maybe he's in demand for something lateral? Hard to say.

Mitchell had a solid, but unspectacular year and is a 6th year senior. People like getting experience, so maybe I'd be surprised, but I doubt his phone's blowing up.

Hadaway has upside, so maybe he's pretty in demand. But I'm not sure what he showed this year is P5 talent. A nice player for us, with potential and raw athleticism. But the P5 doesn't seem to use the portal to take on projects.

As long as the Bobcats field a strong roster, the rest of them can suck. I want to see a big conference championship banner get raised in The Convo and those other schools can go wee-wee-wee all the way home. Especially the one in Oxford.
Well...we've been poached as well in previous years and I have a feeling it won't just be Quinn Corna as the only Bobcat in the portal.
Hundo-P. Boals is surely meeting with all current players on the roster to gauge their interest in returning, and making new non-contract offers to try and keep them here. It'll take some $$$. He gets the tough job of determining how much of his small budget he wants to dedicate toward re-recruiting the current roster vs. paying new hires.

Last season went to keeping the team. We'll see how this off-season pans out.
How much of our roster should we be paying to retain?

Clayton, yes. AJB's injury makes him less of a target. Who else would to expect to be in very high demand? We were a semi-finalist in a very low ranked conference.
Yea, I'm just not seeing it with anyone on our roster right now. Shereef would likely be buried again similar to his time at Creighton unless he's going to school like a Drake, for example.

Hadaway took a step forward but let's not pretend anyone else noticed but us. Clayton's pick and pop ability with his size would be appealing, but he'd turn into more of an 8-10 min guy at the next level imo. He hasn't shown the physicality BVP had inside and outside to warrant a major P5 opportunity.

I'm surprised it's Thursday and we haven't seen IJ's name. Even if he hasn't been on the team, he still has to enter, right?

I thought Wiz might jump but maybe not after all.

He should be out of eligibility. But I guess you never know in the current environment where a Miami Hurricane football player is in his 9th season.

Edit: Or Sam Towns' cousin, Seth, who just completed his 8th year of college basketball. From Harvard, to o$u, to Howard.

Very high demand, in terms of having to put half of your NIL money into keeping them, then no, you'll have to let them go. But if we lose one if those 5 it changes the outlook for next season pretty significantly.

This whole discussion is making me lose interest in college athletics. Someone posted that it sounded like we are having to bribe players to stay. Until there are some actually enforceable guidelines that's exactly what it appears to be. In terms of the MAC, it looks like UMass and WMU, two schools that apparently have a lot of NIL money floating around are going to dominate and rest of the little 12, or whatever it ends up being, are going to be scrambling for the scraps. In this environment coaching is not really at a premium, it's a question of how big is your bankroll. Why bother to bring in a player, coach him up and make him better, when he'll just bolt for a bigger "salary" somewhere else? The concept of team loyalty and strong bonds between players and coaches built up over several years of working together are relics of the past. Sorry about the rant, but I'm getting quite depressed over these developments.

Which is even more amazing how Groce got Freeman to stay for one more year. He must have gotten all of Akron's NIL money.

Or, they never existed. At least, not in a way that would have carried any weight at all were there not restrictions on transfers.

Some percentage of that loyalty/bond was projection and marketing, right? Maybe it's more than we realized as fans.

And maybe, what we're seeing now is the wheat separating from the chaff amongst college coaches, and Groce can keep his team together (and attract back Ali Ali because he creates a bond that warrants loyalty), but 70% of coaches just aren't all that good at that part of the job.

Bingo. It's why I now refer to it as NC(AAU). Nothing but glorified AAU pick-up ball where you play with your buds, or the posse that gives the best cheddar.

Coaches? We don't need no stinkin coaches, other than to finalize the schedules, plan the travel and cut the checks yo.

And it's why the good coaches are looking around and asking themselves why continue to bother.

Eh, until recently college was one of the few places that loyalty actually mattered.

HS? That depends on where your parents live. Unless you're moving the family and changing jobs or enrolling in a private school - you go where you live.

College though, that's where everybody on the team shares the fact that they each individually made the conscious decision to attend that school and be a part of that team together. That's a special bond that you can share with not just current teammates but you can relate with past and future generations as well, because they made the same decisions you did.

Pros? You go where you're drafted, or where you can sign the biggest/best contract as a free agent.

College - until this NIL AAU garbage - was the only one with true, honest, loyalty due to freedom of choice.

And now it has become nothing more than mercenaries, seemingly moving to the highest bidder every year. Have bag, will travel. As long as you can show me the money.

Agee, Sullinger, Cochran--blah blah blah--look at Ali Ali, Tanner Holden, Peyton Sparks--of course there are RayJ Dennis' of the world and Mark Sears but some of these dudes better be careful.

Isn't it possible he's just done playing basketball? Just because he's not in the portal doesn't mean he's on the team.

Some transfers are down to a level that the websites just ignore.

Like Ellis Dozier to Claflin College (?) in rural South Carolina. The unrated players who end up at obscure D-3, NAIA, non-NCAA affiliates, etc just aren't tracked it seems. He may already be set up to transfer to Maranatha Baptist Bible College for all we know where he would get to play against schools like Principia and Emmaus.

Could be. I don’t think he’s with the team, just figured he’d be onto new endeavors via lower level hoops.

Didn't Tenerowicz, another walk-on, jump in the portal a year or two ago? Did he end up anywhere at all or just leave basketball? I'm curious if Corna will be able to come back to Ohio if he tests the waters and doesn't find a new home.

I thought I remembered Tenerowicz going to John Carroll or something? I know Luke Frazier transferred there.
