Don't know why we don't work together across our departments with this. Put dad's on the second weekend of November, stick Austin Peay there or screw it.
Makes too much sense. Saying this as an alum (1983), dad (2021), and potential dad (2029?).

And really, it isn't about the Dads. It's about the kids (especially Freshmen) who don't know what to do with their Dads (can't just play Playstation or stream Spotify with Dad) and come to a game, and you hope you can pleasantly surprise them enough for them to decide to come back on their own.

Right. I personally hate feeling like I'm responsible for another adult's fun. I really never enjoyed Moms weekend for this reason. Can't just post up at the Junction all day.

This is one of my biggest complaints when it comes to Ohio University & Ohio Athletics. Why can't they work together to create an event weekend that works out to the advantage of everyone? They used to when we had the quarter system - why can't they do it now? #CmonMan 🤔

When this happened last year, I speculated that this is done on-purpose to maximize revenue for the local community.

Football games create revenue, basketball games create revenue, and various weekends (Dads, Moms, Parents, Sibs, etc) create revenue. Maybe the feeling is that you net more visitors to Athens by creating more unique draws?

Just a guess -- no idea how each draws, but I could see the logic at least.

Sure, but you need to give guests things to do.

Host Austin Peay on any other November or December Saturday and what, maybe 4,500 show up. Not much of a revenue blip. Host them on Dad's weekend and it's probably double that.

Volleyball is home vs Central Michigan. There's that, I guess.

Hockey is home that weekend too.

It’s nothing more than lack of communication from departments since the move to semesters.

Perhaps but I'd say if Cutler wanted it the suggested way, it would be that way.

This was a fun tourney to attend, I was there the last time Ohio was in it. Really small gym, so you're right on top of the action.

That Kentucky '98 game, I was there. Wasn't that Tubby Smith's national title year?

The gym is Coastal Carolina’s, right? Baha Mar last year had the same feel. I’m planning on going to Myrtle as well so glad to hear that.

Beat a handful of MAC teams last season. Roughly a .500 team over the last few years.

Yes, it's at Coastal. Weird setup in a way just because the gym is inside the student rec center building. You walk in, and it's gym on the left and treadmills/ellipticals/weight room on the right. Pretty campus, though!

I know we’re notoriously later into the summer with our non-conference schedule release, but it doesn’t sound like an us thing. Here’s a clip of Brian Wardle, Bradley’s HC on Twitter looking for games to fill.

We should play Bradley.

When our non-conference schedule comes out, it's going to have a bunch of teams on it we're all going to be less excited to play than we would be to play Bradley. All these mids complain the big programs won't play them, and that's true. Isn't the only solution to load up on high quality mid majors non-conference?

Agreed, I’d love to have a H/H with Bradley. Even if there's a chance to double-down this season because of Myrtle.

We've been pretty good about getting H/H's with mid-majors recently, like Delaware and Belmont. But I think need more of these. The neutral site games are becoming more common from what I'm seeing, similar to the Davidson game.

Some recent H/H mid-major matchups I've seen announced:

Loyola/Princeton, Loyola/Tulsa, Loyola/San Francisco (in Milwaukee).
Furman/Belmont
Charleston/Wofford
George Mason/JMU
Utah State/Charlotte
UAB/Vermont

I'm unsure if some of these are out of reach, but I'd love a non-conference with multiple matchups of this magnitude. Especially if P5 games are harder to come by.

List of schools looks for games -> https://x.com/low_madness/status/1821576446558732473?s=46...

If we have space on the schedule give me just about any of these schools, assuming logistics work.

Which of these teams would you H/H and which of these teams would you buy?

You could technically buy McNeese because it's in the Southland. Although I think most would be ok playing at McNeese for a H/H.

St. Thomas and South Dakota are really the only obvious buy games for me. I think the rest of these schools are parallel to us and I'd be ok with a H/H with each. Outside of the traveling for Hawaii and UCSB to an extent, they all seem reasonable logistically off the cuff.

You?

If I had to guess, most of (if not all) of these schools are looking for home games this season. Which could be why we're unable to line up. Based on what we know so far, we could also use some more home games. Idk.

I've always said the key to a good BB schedule is FB. The MAC should mandate, any 'buy' game for the football team should have a guaranteed road BB game tied to it inside a 3-year window. ...

AND

That contract should also stipulate any BB road upset automatically triggers a return home game for (fill in the MAC team).

That may cut down a 5-10K on the FB payout, but would be well worth it over the long haul. Makes BB scheduling easier as well IMO.

Miami is the second MAC team to release their non con. Not much. Six home games (two non D1s, two low majors, Air Force, and Wright), buy games at Michigan and IU, small neutral site tourney.
