It hasn't taken long for Chris Garrett to make a positive impact on Ohio football. The true freshman returned three punts for 90 yards, including a 62-yarder, vs. Rutgers. Garrett's season average of 26.8 yards per punt return is first in the MAC and fourth in the nation. His 134 punt return yards through three games are just 32 yards short of Dion Byrum's team-leading total of 166 from a year ago. Rutgers 'D' overwhelms Ohio in 24-7 win

Rutgers held Ohio to 119 yards of total offense in posting a 24-7 win Saturday at Rutgers Stadium. A week after an offensive explosion against Northern Illinois, the Bobcats had just -6 rushing yards. The Scarlet Knights (3-0) were led by running back Ray Rice who ran 29 times for 190 yards and two scores. Ohio's defense turned in a solid performance allowing 300 yards of total offense and forcing three interceptions. The Bobcats (2-1, 1-0 MAC) travel to Missouri next Saturday.

Perhaps lost in last week's offensive explosion was the play of tight end Rudy Sylvan. He caught five balls for 51 yards and his sprawling TD before half switched momentum to Ohio. Ohio opened Mid-American Conference play with a 35-23 win at Northern Illinois Saturday afternoon. Austen Everson keyed the Bobcats (2-0, 1-0 MAC) win by throwing for 322 yards and three touchdowns. Kalvin McRae ran for 106 yards and two scores and caught another. Huskies' (0-2, 0-1) Heisman candidate Garrett Wolfe rushed for 196 yards and two TD's in the losing effort.

Coming into this season, a big question mark for Ohio was who would handle the punting and kicking duties. Matt Lasher answered that question with an exclamation point vs. UT-Martin. The senior was perfect on his two field goal attempts and three extra-point tries. He also punted six times for a 42.8 yard average and placed four punts inside the opponent's twenty. Ohio's defense scored a touchdown and allowed just 123 yards in a 29-3 win over Tennessee-Martin Saturday night at Peden Stadium. The defensive effort in the Bobcats' season-opening win overshadowed the lackluster play on offense. Ohio managed just 144 yards of total offense. The Bobcats open Mid-American Conference play Saturday at Northern Illinois.
