OXFORD, Ohio – Ohio forced six turnovers and scored five rushing touchdowns, soundly defeating rival Miami for the fifth straight year, 34-13, at Yager Stadium on Saturday.

The Bobcats (5-3, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) forced RedHawks quarterback Zac Dysert into four interceptions and sacked him five times while winning their fourth straight game and taking over first place in the MAC East Division.

Vince Davidson rushed for a career-high 103 yards and helped Ohio answer back from an early 7-0 deficit with a career-long run of 56 yards for a touchdown.

Dysert finished with 332 passing yards on a 21-of-36 effort, but Miami netted only 11 rushing yards. Nick Harwell had 11 catches for 219 yards, but also cost his team a touchdown with an untimely fumble.

Miami (4-4, 3-1 MAC) had taken the lead on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Dysert to Armand Robinson on its first possession.

Ohio took the lead for good by taking advantage of a Hilton Dawson III interception near midfield. A 31-yard Boo Jackson pass to Terrence McCrae set up the first of two Donte Harden touchdown runs, but the extra point failed.

Seth Philip missed a pair of field goals in the final six minutes of the first half, and it left the RedHawks trailing 13-7 at the break.

Cornerback Travis Carrie’s second sack of the game led to a fumble by Dysert that was recovered by Eric Benjamin, and one player later, Harden scored on a 48-yard run for a 20-7 Ohio advantage. Benjamin also had a sack in the game.

Jackson scored on a one-yard run on the Bobcats’ next possession, capping off a 14-play, 85-yard drive that included a third-down conversion with a 39-yard completion to Riley Dunlop.

It seemed Miami was going to answer back immediately when Nick Harwell broke free for an 81-yard gain, but fumbled the ball back over to Ohio will celebrating just before he reached the end zone.

The RedHawks got the touchdown back early in the fourth quarter, scoring with 11:47 remaining on a 14-yard pass from Dysert to Thomas Merriweather.

Miami, though, was intercepted by Steven Jackson on the first play of its next possession, and Omar Leftwich picked off his second pass of the fourth quarter with six minutes remaining.

Ohio sealed the victory with a two-yard Jackson touchdown run with 3:18 remaining.

The Bobcats rolled up 222 rushing yards, despite playing most of the game without their leading rusher, quarterback Phil Bates. Harden had seven carries for 62 yards in his second game back after a six-game suspension.

Jackson was 10 of 19 passing for 149 yards with an interception. Dunlop caught four passes for 68 yards.

Dak Notestine had a pair of sacks for Ohio, which nearly doubled its season sack total from seven to 12. In addition, Stafford Gatling had a tackle for a loss of 13 yards.

It was the seventh straight MAC road victory for the Bobcats, tying a team record set in 1959-61.

The Bobcats now lead the MAC East at 4-1, with Miami and Temple sitting at 3-1.

Ohio will take a break from MAC play when it faces Lousiana-Lafayette at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peden Stadium.
