Ohio played 18th-ranked Virginia Tech to a 7-7 halftime tie but the Hokies pulled away in the second half for a 28-7 win Saturday afternoon in Blacksburg. The Bobcats (2-1) struggled against a tough Tech defense putting up only 114 yards of total offense.

Still, Ohio went up 7-0 in the second quarter capitalizing on a fumble by Virginia Tech (2-1) on a punt return. Kalvin McRae capped the 26-yard drive with a 4-yard TD run. The Hokies answered back before half on a Kenny Lewis 13-yard run. The score stayed tied until Tyrod Taylor scored on a 6-yard quarterback draw with 3:38 left in the the third quarter. Virgina Tech added two fourth quarter scores on a 1-yard run from Brandon Ore and a 44-yarder by Kenny Lewis.

The win was the 200th of Frank Beamer's career. Ohio will be back in action next Saturday when the Bobcats host the 2-1 Wyoming Cowboys.
