Much of Ohio's football fortunes this year will be tied to how well junior quarterback Austen Everson can run the offense. It won't be an easy task. Everson is in his third different offense and with his third offensive coordinator in as many years. This, while standing behind an offensive line that allowed an NCAA-worst 52 sacks last year. Everson, a finalist for Tennessee's high school Mr. Football Award and two-time all-state selection, is the only Bobcat signal-caller to have taken a snap at the collegiate level.
His Ohio debut was flawless. Forced to burn his redshirt in 2003 when Fred Ray and Ryan Hawk were unable to go in the Homecoming game vs. UCF, Everson ran 21 times for 130 yards and three scores while going 4-for-4 passing for 118 yards and a touchdown. Last year, Everson split time with Hawk. He made two starts and came off the bench to spark Ohio's win over Kentucky. BobcatAttack.com's Rollie Merriman talked with Everson at Ohio's Football Media Day about the upcoming season.
