For the second straight year, an Ohio football player was waiting for his name to be called in the NFL Draft. Last year, Bobcat punter Dave Zastudil got the word that he was a fourth round draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens. This year, running back Chad Brinker waited but didn't get the call. However, minutes after the draft was over he was a New York Jets.

The Martins Ferry native known for his hard running style was been worked out by several NFL teams. Teams were looking at Brinker as a 3rd-down back capable of returning kicks and punts and helping out on special teams. That would seem to be the role he would play with a Jets team that lost kick returner Chad Morton to the Washington redskins in free agency.

Meanwhile, Kevin Kerr signed a free agent contract with Indianapolis. The Colts are looking at Kerr as a kickoff specialist. You can bet that Kerr will be Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning's favorite kicker in camp. Manning has spent the off-season trading barbs with kicker Mike Vanderjagt after he ripped Manning in an interview on a Canadian television station.
