Buffalo snapped a school-record 18-game losing streak rallying for a 26-17 win over Ohio Saturday afternoon at UB Stadium. The Bulls (1-8 Overall, 1-4 MAC) reeled off 16 unanswered fourth-quarter points for their first MAC and home win since defeating Ohio 44-0 in the 2001 season. Ohio quarterback Fred Ray led the team to two early scores before leaving the game to an injured right shoulder and the Bobcats never seemed to recover.
Ohio (2-6, 1-3) started the game looking like it would have no problem with Buffalo. The Bobcats got on the board first when Fred Ray ran 14 yards for a score. The extra point was blocked but Ohio was in the lead 6-0 with 9:31 left in the first quarter. The Cats would go up 12-0 when Ray connected on a 28-yard TD pass to Ray Huston.
The Bobcat defense made the score 14-0 when Buffalo QB P.J. Piskorik was called for intentionally grounding in the end zone. Piskorik would put the Bulls on the board when he hooked up with Matt Knueven for a 58-yard touchdown strike and the game went to half with Ohio leading 14-7.
After intercepting a Ryan Hawk pass, Ohio's third turnover of the game, the Bulls were in business at the Ohio 7-yard line. That turned into a Dallas Pelz 21-yard field goal and the Bulls cut the lead to 14-10. The Cats would counter with a field goal of their own and led 17-10 with 5:15 left in the third.
Buffalo tied the game with 10:37 remaining in the game with an 8-play, 93-yard drive highlighted by a Dave Dawson 50-yard run. Ohio's Chris Jackson would fumble the ensuing kickoff. That turned into a Dallas Pelz 33-yard field goal and the Bulls were in the lead for good. Pelz later added kicks from 34 and 24 yards.
