No one felt good leaving Heinz Field last night.
Despite outgaining Pittsburgh by nearly 100 yards, the Ohio Bobcats committed six turnovers and lost to the Panthers 27-14 in the season opener, leaving Bobcat players wondering what could have been and leaving the Panther faithful wondering why their offense was only able to muster 193 yards of offense against a MAC school that was 1-10 in 2001.
Ohio Coach Brian Knorr's rejuvenated squad squandered several scoring opportunities and was only 9 of 23 passing the ball as a team with five interceptions. Chad Brinker led Ohio fell behind Pitt 20-0 at half, but rallied for second half touchdowns by Brinker and quarterback Fred Ray. The Bobcats fell short of closing the gap on a crucial fourth-quarter possession.
"A loss is painful, especially coming off of what these guys went through last year, and our guys feel it right now," said Knorr. "We let a lot of opportunities slip through our hands."
