D Helps OU Top Zips 27-10
Defense Scores First Touchdown in One and a Half Seasons

Senior safety Joe Sellers raced 28 yards after picking up an Akron fumble for a key third-quarter touchdown as Ohio rallied to beat the Zips 27-10 in Peden Stadium.

The win kept Ohio's slim MAC East title hopes alive pending the outcome of Tuesday night's nationally televised Marshall-Miami contest. Ohio (4-2 MAC East, 4-6) must hope Marshall beats Miami in Huntington in order for Nov. 23's OU-Marshall game to have title implications. The Bobcats would also have to beat UCF and have UCF beat Miami in order to host the MAC title game.

After spotting the Zips a 10-0 lead, Ohio's defense stiffened and stifled Zips QB Charlie Frye and running back Brandon Payne the rest of the way. Kevin Kerr made it 10-3 just before half, and Sellers ran in for his score after picking up a lateral from Frye to Payne that the Zips apparently mistook for an incomplete pass.

Chad Brinker rushed for 157 yards to lead OU's ground assault, which picked up 308 yards and held the ball for seven minutes longer than Akron's. QB Fred Ray rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns to help pace the Bobcats.

We'll have more images from the game later on.
