Central Michigan's J.R. Wallace hit a halfcourt shot as time expired to give his team an 87-84 victory over Ohio at Rose Arena Saturday. The Bobcats (4-7 Overall, 1-2 MAC) rallied from a 5-point deficit with 33 seconds to play. Steve Esterkamp's jumper with 2 seconds left tied the game at 84 and set up Wallace's heroics. Chris Kaman led CMU (9-3, 2-1) with 22 points. Wallace and Mike Manciel each had 19 and Whitney Robinson added 16.

Mid-American Conference play begins in earnest Wednesday night as Ohio hosts Akron at the Convocation Center. The Bobcats (3-6, 0-1) lost their first MAC game at Toledo on December 7th. The Zips (6-4, 1-0), meanwhile, started league play with a 105-104 overtime win over pre-season MAC West favorite Ball State. Trailing by 18 points, Ohio didn't pack it in Saturday against Kentucky and almost bit the 20th-ranked Wildcats at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati before falling 83-75.

Ohio battled ice-cold shooting and Navy but hung on for a 54-52 win Friday night at the Convocation Center. The Bobcats (2-4) won their home opener despite shooting 27% from the field, 19% from the 3-point line and 56% from the charity stripe. Brandon Hunter put up a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Also in double figures were Sonny Johnson with 13 and Steve Esterkamp with 11.

Ohio ends a 5-game road trip when it travels to take on Boston University Friday night. Like the Bobcats (1-3), Boston (3-4) has struggled to start the season after receiving favorable preseason press.
