ATHENS – Ohio snapped its five-game losing streak and kept Maine winless with a 79-57 victory Wednesday night at The Convo.

The Bobcats (2-6) built a 15-point halftime lead and were in control until the end.

Javan Simmons led the way with 17 points, with freshman JJ Kelly adding a career-high 14 points. Jalen Breath had 13 points and seven rebounds in just 15 minutes off the bench.

Ohio had not won since holding off Illinois State 72-68 on Nov. 6 in its second game of the season.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Ohio struggled to score in the second half as its losing streak reached five straight with a 70-58 loss to Loyola Marymount in the consolation game of the Sunshine Slam on Tuesday evening at the Ocean Center.

The Bobcats (1-6) led 32-21 at the half but shot just 31.5% for the game and could not hold their lead.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Ohio could not slow down another top-notch opponent as George Mason ran away with a 92-69 victory Monday in the opening round of the Sunshine Slam at the Ocean Center.

MORAGA, Calif. – True freshman Liam Campbell scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half as St. Mary’s was too much for Ohio in a 90-60 blowout Tuesday night at UCU Pavilion.

The Gaels (3-0) jumped out to a 45-27 halftime lead and the game was never closer than that in the second half.

ATHENS – After giving up a late lead in its season opener, Ohio was strong down the stretch this time in taking a 72-68 victory against Illinois State on Thursday night at The Convo.

The Bobcats trailed by eight at one point in the second half but used a 13-0 run to take the lead and never lost it.

ATHENS – Arkansas State took the lead in the final four minutes and topped Ohio in its basketball season opener 89-85 on Monday night at The Convo.

CLEVELAND – All season long, breaks did not go Ohio’s way, and that was the case again Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference basketball tournament at Rocket Arena.

The injury-plagued Bobcats took the lead with four seconds left on a Jackson Paveletzke free throw, but the Rockets tied it and sent the game to overtime on a Sonny Wilson free throw with one second left, and they went on to win 95-90.

TOLEDO – Ohio could not slow down Toledo, which pulled away in the second half with a 96-82 victory to wrap up the regular season Friday night at Savage Arena.
