Ohio offense cold in loss at Oakland
Bobcats shoot 37 percent, commit 18 turnovers

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Ohio shot 36.8 percent and committed 18 turnovers in a 73-56 loss to Oakland on Saturday at the Athletic Center O’Rena.

With the game tied at 37 with 13 minutes remaining, Oakland went on a 12-0 run and Ohio did not get closer than nine the rest of the way.

Nick Kellogg scored 18 points and Stevie Taylor had 14 points for the Bobcats (6-2). Duke Monday and Kahlil Felder scored 13 apiece as six Grizzlies scored between 11 and 13 to account for all of their points.

Ohio was the team with the dominant defensive effort early, leading 21-10 with 4:43 remaining. But Oakland (2-7) rallied to tie the game at 25 before halftime on a steal and dunk by Dante Williams.

The Bobcats also surged ahead in the second half, taking a 35-29 lead on a Taylor 3-pointer at the 14:53 mark. A Jon Smith dunk that tied the game at 37 with 13:13 remaining accounted for the only Ohio points during a 20-2 Oakland run.

Maurice Ndour scored 12 points and Smith had 10 with both finishing with a team-high nine rebounds. Monday had nine boards for the Grizzlies, who were outrebounded 42-35 but had only nine turnovers.

The Grizzlies shot 40.7 percent but heated up to make 48.4 percent of their attempts in the second half after shooting 32.1 percent before the break.

Corey Petros, Travis Bader and Williams had 12 points apiece for Oakland, while Mitch Baenzinger scored 11 points. Felder had a game-high seven assists.
