Ohio dominates 2nd half, routs Richmond
Bobcats outscored Spiders 39-10 during final 16 minutes of 73-48 win

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio outscored Richmond 39-10 during the final 16 minutes to blow out the Spiders, 73-48, at The Convo on Saturday.
Walter Offutt scored 16 points to lead four players in double-figures for the Bobcats (5-0). D.J. Cooper finished with 14 points, while Jon Smith and Nick Kellogg added 13 and 12, respectively.
Only three players scored all game for Richmond, led by Derrick Williams with 17 points. Darien Brothers was 4 of 5 from 3-point range and scored 16 points, while Kendall Anthony added 15 points.
Richmond (4-2) led by as many seven in the first half and had a 30-27 advantage at halftime. The Spiders went on top 38-34 on a Brothers 3-pointer with 16:12 remaining but Richmond scored only 10 points the rest of the game.
Offutt scored a layup and a Cooper 3-pointer put the Bobcats on top, 39-38, with 14 minutes remaining. Kellogg added a trey to cap the 8-0 run. After Williams hit a free throw, Cooper knocked down another one from deep to give the Bobcats a six-point advantage.
Williams scored a layup to cut the Spiders’ deficit to four, but the Bobcats followed with eight straight points again, including 3-pointers by Cooper and Offutt. Ohio came up with a string of 11 straight points, extending its lead to 66-45 on a Travis Wilkins 3-pointer.
The Bobcats were 10 of 20 from the 3-point line, including 8 of 13 in the second half. Overall, they shot 60.7 percent after halftime, whereas the Spiders made good on only 25 percent of their shots after halftime.
Richmond led throughout the majority of the first half, taking a 16-9 lead on a Brothers 3-pointer with 11:03 to go before halftime. Ohio tied the game at 18 on a Cooper layup and took the lead on a T.J. Hall trey with 4:25 before halftime.
The Spiders came back, though, scoring seven points in a row, taking a 28-23 lead on another Brothers 3-pointer. A Kellogg layup before the halftime buzzer made it 30-27.
Ohio held a 36-26 rebounding advantage and forced 19 turnovers while committing 13. The Bobcats outscored the Spiders 32-12 in the paint and 26-9 off turnovers.
Ivo Baltic scored only seven points, but he had nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.
The Bobcats play their final of six straight home games to start the season when they host St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
