Ohio gets balanced scoring in beating Arkansas State
Five players reach double figures in 15-point win

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio put five players in double figures, built a 13-point halftime advantage and took a 69-54 victory against Arkansas State on Sunday at The Convo.
D.J. Cooper, Nick Kellogg and Reggie Keely each had 13 points, Walter Offutt scored 12 points and Ivo Baltic scored 10 points for the Bobcats (3-0).
Led by Keely and Kellogg, Ohio held a 29-0 advantage in bench points.
Offutt and Keely each grabbed nine rebounds and Cooper dished out six assists and had three steals.
Brandon Peterson paced the Red Wolves (1-3) with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Trey Finn had 17 points and four assists.
Baltic scored the first six Ohio points and his layup with 17:19 left in the first half put his team on top 6-5 and it led the rest of the way.
After Marcus Hooten connected on a 3-pointer to cut Arkansas State’s deficit to 12-10, Ohio scored nine straight points, capped off by a Cooper trey, for a double digit lead with 11:02 remaining.
Offutt hit a trey for the Bobcats, who were 9 of 19 behind the arc, and Baltic, who had all of his points before halftime, scored a layup for a 15-point lead late in the first half. Ohio took a 38-25 lead into the break.
Keely baskets, both assisted by Cooper, with the second one off a steal, put the Bobcats on top 42-25 early in the second half.
Cooper hit a triple at the 17:31 mark to give Ohio its biggest lead, 45-27, and the team also matched that 18-point advantage at 51-33 on an Offutt layup with 11:18 remaining.
Arkansas State made a push, though, scoring six straight points to get within 12 with a pair of Malcon Kirkland free throws with 9:13 to go. Kellogg ended the run with a 3-pointer and hit another key shot from beyond the arc after Finn closed the gap to 10 with five straight points.
Peterson’s three-point play with 5:36 remaining got the Red Wolves as close as 57-49, but Cooper hit two free throws , Ricardo Johnson made a trey and Cooper scored twice more at the line to make it a 15-point game again.
Arkansas State had three turnovers, two missed field goals and two missed free throws while going three minutes without scoring after it had cut the lead to eight.
For the third straight game, Ohio gave itself a lot more opportunities than its opponent, holding a 14-6 advantage in offensive rebounds and a 22-15 difference in turnovers.
The Red Wolves made 19 of 43 (44.2 percent) shots from the field and 12 of 17 (70.6 percent) free throws. The Bobcats were 25 of 59 (42.4 percent) from the floor and 10 of 16 (62.5 percent) at the line.
Ohio will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to face Louisville at 7 p.m. Friday at the KFC Yum! Center.
