What Can Brown do for Ohio?

The Ohio basketball team looks to get into the win column tonight as it travels to take on Brown University. While it is a road game for the Cats (0-1), they will be playing at the same Dunkin' Donuts Center where they lost to Providence Saturday. After dropping its first four games, Brown won its first game Saturday defeating future Ohio opponent Navy in overtime.

Glen Miller has the Brown program on the rise. His team posted a 17-10 record last season, tying the school record for victories, while winning the unofficial Rhode Island Championship with victories over Providence College and Rhode Island. The Bears' 32 wins in the last two years are the most in Brown history. Brown posted an 8-6 Ivy League mark in 2001-2002, and 9-5 record in 2000-2001, registering back-to-back winning Ivy seasons for the first time in 27 years.

Tim O'Shea will look for an improved defensive effort after his team allowed Providence to shoot 57% from the field. That defense will be tested by a Brown team that led the Ivy League in scoring last season and comes into the game with five players averaging double figures. The leading scorer (13.8 PPG) is senior co-captain Earl Hunt. A two-time first team All-Ivy selection and Regional All-American, Hunt led the Ancient Eight in scoring for the past two years, averaging 19.7 points per game each season.

Sophomore point guard Jason Forte (12.4 PPG, 4.4 APG) emerged as one of the top young players in the Ivy League last year. A flamboyant scorer and passer, Forte's 11.3 points per game ranked second on Brown's team in 2001-2002 and his 121 assists were second in the Ivy League (4.48 per game) and eighth best in Brown basketball history. Senior co-captain Alai Nuualiitia (12.0 PPG, 6.8 RPG) is the key man in the Bears' frontcourt. An athletic 6-7 forward for the Bears, he comes in shooting 68% from the field after having shot 57% in each of the last two years.
