4-0 over Pirates. Arrieta was masterful. . . . just like the Bobcats will be this weekend. Cubs victory is a very good omen for all teams that are maligned and under appreciated. It's the first shutout by a Cub pitcher in a post-season game since the 1945 World Series. Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1907. And some here complain no MACC since 1968? ;-)

Enjoy your victory, you have a pitcher and that is it. When you meet the Cards you will be done. What is pathetic is that the 3 best teams in all of Professional Baseball have to play each other from the get-go. If any of the 3 NL Central teams were in any other division including the AL they would be leading that division. At the end of the day the World Series Champ will be from the NL Central. Further, that team will be the Cards. Cubs have a pitcher and that is it. Play 5 games against the Bucco's and the Cubs are back in Chicago. The Pirates owned the Cubs every time we played you this year. Enjoy your one and done.

Cubs won the season series vs Pirates 11-8 - look it up.

I have to mention this...I believe 2015 was the year Marty McFly traveled to in Back to the Future Part II, and he saw on a billboard that the Cubs won the World Series.....
For the record, I'm all for this one-game Wild Card playoff. Gives teams extra incentive to win the division.

+1
With clear signs like this, how can we not win it all?
Also, please look up the regular season record between the Cubs and the Cards. Doesn't look overwhelming to me.

There would be plenty of incentive to win the division even if there were a 3-game wildcard series. Being able to rest and align your rotation is plenty of incentive. Being able to hang Division Champs banners is another incentive. In a sport where everything is based on a series but this one game, I think it's dumb, and doesn't make any sense at all.

If that were to happen it might be the greatest prediction of all time. And that's the ONLY thing we'll be able to take away from that movie that ACTUALLY happened. That's insane.

The Cards are good, but they are as vulnerable a 100-win team as there may have ever been. I don't think they make it to the WS. They are well built for a dominating regular season, but I don't think they have what they need to run the postseason.

Its heartening to see that we have a Bobcat-Cub alliance on BA. We will have to see if Clarence Page over at the Trib wants to join up (unless he's a Sox fan - then forget it).
OK - back to football!

Wow 79, nothing like a post totally devoid of facts! I bet you are all types of fun on Facebook.

Not a Cub fan. I"m a Mets fan who was actually rooting for the Pirates last night, but not sad about the Cubs. I hope they Cubs embarrass the CArdinals right before losing to the Mets in the NLCS.

If there is one team the Cubs owe one to it's the Mets. Revenge for 1969 would be on the agenda, assuming they take care of Cards, a longtime rival. Go Cubs!

I'm not wondering if the Cubs are going to win a World Series.
I'm wondering how many they will win in then next 5-8 years.
And, Theo Epstein is a baseball god.

Cubs lead the series 2-1 . . . set an all-time post-season record with 6 home runs.
With the Cubs wearing the #14 patch, I hope that we can get to the World Series in honor of Ernie Banks. In this year of his passing, there would be a bitter-sweet irony in that. Ernie was my childhood idol, and one of my most cherished sports memorabilia is an autographed baseball I got just a few years ago when I made a small donation to Ernie's charity.
GO CUBS!

These Cubs are young and they are hungry. They will be back . . . very soon. You better watch out. You won't be able to get by with your disparaging remarks too much longer.

You're talking about winning the World Series. My goals are more modest -- just getting there. That's only 70 years and counting! ;-)
