I'm just curious about the Bobcats on the ice. I haven't been following them closely, but I'd like to know what you guys think of our hockey team.

I do follow them and usually get to a couple of weekends each year. I do wish they would do a better job of updating the website. For instance, the last score update on the schedule page is from 8 November.

Here is a link to the ACHA website. You can get scores, standings, and national rankings. As of this week the Bobcats are Co-#1. Tied with Minot State.

Thanks for the info and I have often gone to it in the past. It's just easier to go to our website. If we are going to have a site then why not keep it up?

Playing for the Cup on Tuesday. Beat Calvin 4-0. Get the winner of Adrain vs UNLV. Played both during the season. Went 1-1 against Adrian and 0-1 against UNLV. UNLV are defending champion.

Edit: They play Adrian.

This may not be an opinion shared by all who enjoy Ohio athletics, but I think D1 hockey is the best ticket on campus right now. Such a fun atmosphere in Bird and the team is really good. Most games late in the season this year were sellouts with lots of standing fans around the ice.

Hoping they can finish off this tourney run with a W over Adrian for the title tonight!

I agree. I am still more of a football guy. However it's easier to get my kids to Bird than Peden.

ACHA D1. Their is also an ACHA D2 team on campus that fared well this season losing at the National Tournament. The NCAA years were before my time, but I loved going to Bird on Friday or Saturday during my time on Campus. Great Support from the town and students, and game operations is really well run as well!

614Hockey is selling shirts. I will be buying one or several. Very cool.

I always heard ACHA D1 was essentially on par with D2, just the costs associated with running a high-level club hockey program are vastly cheaper.

I don't care if it's bowling. This is pretty sweet.

Youngstown State actually won the Bowling National Championship last year. Hilarious. I love obscure sports tees. Gotta find one of those as well.

There is also ACHA Division 3. The difference in talent among just these ACHA divisions is light years. One of my former baseball players is playing for the Florida Gators who are D2. I pushed him hard to look at OU and he did but was basically told no chance at even OU's D2 team.

Also, Penn State hockey went to NCAA status about 10-15 years ago. While they still have a club presence, I don't think they compete nationally like they used to. Our 5 national championships is impressive let's make it 6.

Ohio was NCAA Hockey from just 1966 to 1973. ACHA D1 is their sweet spot and I see no reason to pursue NCAA status again.

Penn State has a ACHA D2 team. They beat the OHIO D2 team to make it to the National Tournament. Penn State lost in the frosty 4.

Why do you assume I didn't care who won? I was following the team's progress through the playoffs. The ability to put words in people's mouths while loading one's own with a foot on this board has always been baffling to me.

However, it's clear that just calling it D1 hockey is misleading, but I was serious about my question as I thought we changed leagues a short while back, but wasn't sure where we ended up.

So, that said, and so you know I'm a fan...Bobcat hockey games are a lot of fun. Congrats 'Cats on the championship!

I never said it was NCAA D1, did I?

Heck of a run for the Cats! I had a little feeling when they barely got by Arizona in their opening tourney game that maybe they will go on a run after that OT win, and sure enough, they did. They have been hot these past few weeks. I'm glad to see it pay off with a title!
