D1 implied to me that it was NCAA, which I knew was wrong. Then later in this thread it was explained that club hockey had divisions, which I never knew. I'm not a great hockey fan, but I'm proud anytime Bobcats win a national championship, even it it were tiddlywinks. Years ago I took my then young son to an OHIO hockey game. It was called early in the game by the refs because fans were throwing beer and beer cups on the ice after what they thought was a bad call. Never been back. Hockey is probably my least favorite sport, so it didn't take much to keep me away. Go Bobcats!

Beer and beer cups? It's been over FORTY YEARS since beer has been sold in Bird Arena. Your son is probably a grandfather by now.

I believe they stopped selling beer right after that game.

Feel free to file a grievance with the ACHA. And while you're at it, check the rest of their website for anything else you know is wrong (but might not actually be wrong). :)

I remember the Kerr's Distributing beer truck being parked where the visitors locker room is now. 25 cent cups and $1 quarts. It was cheaper than drinking uptown on Court Street.

How is this response vaguely relevant to what I just said and you quoted?

Apparently you need to have it spelled out. I said when I saw the term D1 I immediately thought of NCAA D1, and I knew we weren't NCAA D1 in hockey. I then said that I learned through posts here that there were also a D1 level in club sports. I said that I never knew that before and indicated that I had learned something. You then accuse me of having some nonexistent grievance. What's wrong with this picture?

I have to congratulate Bobcat hockey on their championship.....I have to admit that I was rooting against them earlier this season as my son plays for a competing school.

There is a wide range of skill within ACHA between divisions (1, 2 and 3) and even within the divisions. ACHA is attracting better athletes in recent years. More student athletes are choosing ACHA over playing at an NCAA D3 school, many which are small, expensive liberal arts schools.

Many don't realize that the pool of NCAA D1 schools with hockey is much smaller than other sports. There are only 64 NCAA D1 schools with hockey. In comparison, there are 365 NCAA D1 basketball programs.

OU and the top ACHA schools are probably comparable to the top NCAA D3 schools and maybe the bottom of the NCAA D1. Actually, last year UNLV's club team defeated Denver (the defending NCAA Division I champion) in an exhibition game.

Thank you for adding this context to the discussion. Good luck to your son.

I heard the cup won by the Ohio hockey team, not unlike the Stanley Cup, has been making its rounds this weekend. Most notably, it's been seen in uptown bars as well Mill Fest.

I doubt it will be as cheap as it was over 40 years ago. It might guarantee sellouts. If you think the games are rowdy now, wait until the crowd has a few.

Nice. Agreed it won't be that cheap.

I would like to add it hasn't been hard to bring beer in during games. Now people won't need to leave during periods.
