Seems like a step down, to me, but maybe he thinks he will play earlier.

New Mexico doesn't play in the MAC so the schedule is a step up.

Well, if you like losing to Oregon 72-0, and TCU 66-17, Utah 56-14, and Texas Tech 52-17, I suppose that's true. I'm not sure that playing teams where you are so dramatically over-matched is enjoyable for anyone, though.

New Mexico also doesn't win, and doesn't play in bowls, so it becomes a matter of personal preference.

New Mexico is also likely to change coaches after next season, unless Mike Locksley can turn it around and have a winning season.  I'm not sure I would encourage any young athlete to go into a situation like that.

I agree with both you guys, but there are always guys willing to step into situations where you  get beat bad or whose coaches are primed to leave.    I can't figure it out and unless you get first hand confirmation of why they do it, you never will.  Gluttons for punishment, I guess.  I'll throw out a possibility-maybe Ohio got the Fisher commitment and Jamaal didn't like it so he switched,  maybe some new commits verballed to NM who he liked, maybe he just had second thoughts and wants to get out of oppressive humid weather.

I just checked with Rivals-New Mexico has 12 verbals 4 from Maryland.  One verballed 1/7, one 1/18. What do you think about that?

...SMH Jamal son what are you thinking? You choose New Mexico over Athens...wow is all I can say..you won't be seen on tv by your family and friends. Travel to your games hope the have frequent flyer miles. You do realize Ohio is a program on the rise? While the Lobos are ..I really don't know what they are honestly. They must have offered a sweet deal..or did you just not want to be apart of a talented secondary or wr group.

Colorado, I agree with that. There is no way to know, but you gave some very plausible reasons.

According to LoboLand.com, there were a few reasons he switched for New Mexico. First, he thought he could get on the field right away. Second, he sees himself as a DB and that's where New Mexico saw him as well. Finally, and this is a bit curious, his dad played basketball at UNM (although just for one year and then left).

Unnecessary...

I agree - no need to give someone flack for their choice. Deciding which school to go to has to be an agonizing choice for an 18 year old, few of which are going to be used to making such life changing decisions. The benefit of analyzing why they made that choice is in helping to make it easier for the next one to choose and stick with Ohio. There is no reason to go further than that, though.
