Merritt makes the call for the Bobcats over offers from East Carolina, New Mexico and Rutgers. The 6-foot, 175-pounder is rated 3 stars by Rivals.

This looks like a great get for our defensive backfield. He'll be a strong option to return kicks/punts as well.

Could be a db or wr..seems like a GREAT PICKUP! Over ECU..RUTGERS..thats big for the recruiting class! If we get another one or two of these look for this class to be ranked 1st in the MAC.

Looks like an awesome recruit!

Makes a lot of people miss when he has the ball, and really locks guys up who do have the ball!

This play made me smile...it's hard to run when you have no legs on the ground

Doc no!!!! Could play right away, but, nooo!!! The roster Ohio has now should be able to allow freshmen to redshirt. Unless the athlete is going to start and is a threat to go pro before graduating with his class redshirt them all. I am serious. No way I will trade the play from a freshman for what he would produce as a fifth year senior.

Now a little exercise. Click the link. http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/ohio-m-foo...

Next, click the column heading for Cl. and you have now sorted the roster by class. What you are seeing is not by accident, but, design. The bigger the groups of redshirt seniors and juniors the more success Ohio will have. JMHO.

In Doc's lexicon you'll find the  phrase " could play right away" in reference to ability. We all want to stockpile players and I prefer the "could play right away" variety.

I'm somewhat jaded since I've lived thru the not so distant recruiting years where the word "potential" was used ad nauseum.  Back in those days the new guys couldn't play right away which destroyed our depth.

You mean you would sit a Noah Keller or LaVon Brazil just because you wanted them to be a fifth year Senior? You can always use that RS later  or have them get another year of eligibility if needed and of course in their case it kinda  worked out that way.

Continuing the path away from the Merritt of this topic , how 'bout those frosh on the link Bcat2 provided?  Any of you insiders know who the coaches believe will be big for us next season?

Can't wait to see Jon Lechner line up next to Jonathan Lechner next year!

That is awesome. And made me think of this from Waterboy.

Too much seriousness this morning, I need some nonsense:)

Here's a guy a like me who mentions some of his favorites....Wave Ryder was on my list...and this year I'm sure I'll have Gods Power Offor:

And in my opinion the defensive backfield is one of our weaknesses depth wise.

I guess Frank was correct a few days ago when he told a potential recruit...."we're out of scholarships, but that might change".......and I was afraid that he meant exactly that.

A Lobo instead of a Bobcat!

That is an interesting switch considering the distance and the butt kickings that program has endured since the 2007 season.  A surprising number of Lobos in the NFL however.

Wonder what turned the lad?

Seems like a step down, to me, but maybe he thinks he will play earlier.

The Lobos need all the help they can get...probably a good chance that he will play early.

New Mexico doesn't play in the MAC so the schedule is a step up.

Well, if you like losing to Oregon 72-0, and TCU 66-17, Utah 56-14, and Texas Tech 52-17, I suppose that's true. I'm not sure that playing teams where you are so dramatically over-matched is enjoyable for anyone, though.

New Mexico also doesn't win, and doesn't play in bowls, so it becomes a matter of personal preference.

We should use his scholly for another safety. We need safeties and we can probably get a better one we just have to be patient. He might have had to redshirt anyway because he is on 174lbs and he didnt look that fast on film. We can get somebody else. Remi Hudson and Larenzo Fisher would be nice.

First off, we reportedly recruited Merritt as a receiver, not a safety.

I think his decommit to New Mexico is interesting because he visited New Mexico prior to visiting Athens, and then committed to Ohio.

From your mouth to Solich's ear. Fisher to Ohio.
