Article in the Lincoln Journal-Star on him - Has an Ohio offer in football, and a basketball scholarship from Colorado State. Is getting football interest from Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Stanford and Nebraska.

I know a father of a boy on that team, and he tells me there is another QB in the 2012 class from Lincoln SW that is very similar, Tay Bender, also a QB and kicker, and who also is getting a lot of interest. I see that Ohio is interested in him as well.

Vick and Bender are both very good football players.  I believe Bender will develop into a more well rounded QB of the two but they are both very gifted.

Looks like Vick is leaning towards football. He'll visit Ohio on 1/14. Then, he and Lincoln Southeast teammate (and Ohio offer) David Sutton will visit Nebraska on 1/21.

Per Vick's comments on Rivals, looks like he's Ohio's number one target at QB (Ohio's been out to see him six times) :
"They've made it pretty clear to me that I'm their top guy at quarterback right now," Vick said. "They said they are putting all their eggs in one basket with me and they believe I would be the best fit of any quarterback they are recruiting for their current offense."

According to HuskersIllustrated.com, Vick was hosted by Zach Taylor on his visit this weekend. The visit went well although whether he would get a full ride, grayshirt or preferred walk-on was left in the air. Even if he does get the Nebraska offer, Vick said it isn't a slam dunk that he'll choose Nebraska over Ohio.

Excerpt:
"Actually, I don't know where I'd go. Then it would probably get into a numbers game and I couldn't give you an answer as to which I'd choose. I liked both schools that I visited."

Sounds like he is leveraging an offer from the Huskers. It will be interesting to see what happens with Vick.

There is nothing else but a "full ride" in the sport of football.

Except the grayshirt and preferred walk-on mentioned in the quoted post...  Players have passed up full rides to go to bigger name programs before.

As posted, "full ride" implies as to a non-full scholarship, which at one time did exist but today all football aide must encompass the same minimum level of support. A Grey Shirt is simply an academic/eligibility standing referring to when one begins school and to which calendar year the scholarship counts against.

Vick won't walk on at Nebraska. Unless Nebraska finds an offer for him, he will be a Bobcat:
http://huskerextra.com/sports/football/recruiting/article...

Even if Nebraska does offer, Vick likes the fact that he would be a QB at Ohio, whereas at Nebraska receiver and DB would be more likely.

If this happens and Bell signs too, we will go from too few QB's in some folks minds to quite a few or maybe too many.   They can't all play QB (or get much playing time at least).

Not in my mind CO. I would love to see us sign Vick and Bell. Two QB's per class should prolly be the goal. Of course, some will fall through the cracks and may pan out at another position, but that is the price you have to pay to find those "diamond in the rough" type of players. We need to throw all these Qb's into the mix and see who rises to the top. The starting position is there for the taking...

It's would be great to give out 2 schollies a year in the search of your diamond if you have that many schollies available.  You certainly won't end up with 8 QB's on your roster for sure-like I said above.   I think we're short on RB's and DB's in this class, but if the coaches don't think so and want another QB instead, I'm sure they know the sitaution much better than us mortals.

The thing is, when you recruit talented athletes as QB's, they are still athletes. If they don't turn out to be the diamond you are looking for at QB, they can often find other ways to help the team. I've seen more than one QB end up in the NFL as a safety, for example. Others could be wide receivers or even linebackers. For example, Wosely was an Ath/QB coming out of high school. I think its great to see these kinds of Athletes coming into the program as Freshmen instead of and Jucos.

BTW, Vick can play a little roundball, too, if he doesn't work out at QB.

That is so true, although I can't remember a guy who we recruited in the past 6-7 years as a QB who has done well in other positions.  The deal is with guys like Roback (sp), he came here to play QB, since they didn't want him to do that at Notre Dame as I recall.  So will he end up transferring or at another position if he doesn't make it as a QB?  Athletes are athletes, so a guy like Thad Turner comes in as a WR, and makes all-conference at DB.

But look at the QB's they were recruiting back in 2005, etc. At that point Ohio was after more the prototype Pro-QB, the pure passer, and they weren't recruiting athletes with the speed for other positions. Also, there were having problems for some reason during that period getting any Freshmen QB's and ended up relying on Jucos or Transfers, like Bower, Scott, and Jackson. The only QB's on the roster during that period that didn't play much were Jones, Febus, and a walkon, Schlicter. Jones was a pure QB. Febus did help on Kick coverage. Schlicter tried to make the move to TE.

My point is, bringing in guys like Tettleton, Snyder, Roback, Bell, and Vick is a turn in the positive direction, and while not all of them can be the starter at QB, I think all, or most of them, will be the kinds of athletes that will help the team, so I see no problem with bringing in 1-2 Athletic QB's a year.

The coaching staff made this kid a priority and closed the deal. Props to the assistants and coaches that made this happen. Glad to see a taller guy with the potential to line up under center. Spring ball and fall camp is really going to bring the best out of our QBs.

EDIT:

I just watched the hudl video posted above. Vick is UNDERRATED! He's got good size, throws a good ball, and he's a lot more mobile than I had initially assumed. A couple clips show him breaking off plays inside the Red Zone and running it in for the score pretty convincingly. He also is able to throw strikes on the run. In the Lincoln SE vs Lincoln SW video he's basically dragging an OLB on his left arm as he rolls right and throws a spiral to his man 20 yards down the sideline for the first down.

Only time will tell if Vick has the intangibles (effort, leadership, attitude, and intelligence), but I'm going out on a limb and saying this is the quarterback that Frank has never had at Ohio. I think Vick is the fabled 3-4 year starter Ohio has sorely missed.

Very excited about this signee. Both Vick and Bell sound like perfect fits in the Ohio system.

I was thinking the same thing. They both fit into our offense perfectly and should give us what we need under center for the next 4 years. This is turning out to be the best Ohio recruiting class I can remember.

Also glad they are both coming!

I like Vick's throwing motion and he has the type of release and arm we seemed to be lacking. This is huge IMO.

I usually don't get excited until they get here, but in this case, is it signing day yet?
