A couple names to keep an eye on...

Roman Martin - 6'2 CB from Portland, Oregon. 247 sports crystal ball recently predicts he'll commit to Ohio.
https://247sports.com/Player/roman-martin-46136977 /

Chris Allen - 6'3 Safety from Ocala, Florida. We are in his final 3 along with Navy and UT Martin (FCS).

Very interesting that as of today, none of our commits are from Ohio.

5 players from the midwest (IN, IL, MI, MO) not from Ohio which is a sign our brand is penetrating more generally throughout MAC country.

Problem is, MAC schools that win usually recruit Ohio.

The numbers seem to go up and down from year to year. Some years Ohio gets a lot from in state, and in other years they seem to mainly recruit out of state players. Out of curiosity, I looked up how many Ohio players each MAC school has recruited the last few years. Here is data from 2021-23 in the form "Total=2023+2022+2021"

BGSU 16=5+3+8 and 6 for 2024 =>22 (11 last two years)
Toledo 17=6+3+8 and 4 for 2024 =>21 (10 last two years)
Akron 13=5+3+5 and 5 for 2024 =>20 (10 last two years)
Miami 14=1+7+6 and 4 for 2024 =>18 (5 last two years)
Ohio 16=7+3+6 and 1 for 2024 =>17 (8 last two years)
Kent 11=4+2+5 and 6 for 2024 =>17 (10 last two years)
Ball St 10=5+3+2 and 1 for 2024 =>11 (6 last two years)
EMU 5=1+0+4 and 2 for 2024 => 7 (3 last two years)
WMU 4=3+0+1 and 1 for 2024 =>5 (4 last two years)
CMU 3=1+0+2 and 2 for 2024 =>5 (4 last two years)
Buffalo 1=1+0+0 and 0 for 2024 (1 last two years)
NIU 0=0+0+0 and 0 for 2024 (none last two years)

Edited to add numbers for 2024 so far

I will never understand why this staff doesn’t recruit Cincinnati more. Furthermore, Ohio should be our Number 1 recruiting area. We are Ohio. But, as LC knows. I love those Florida kids. Hard to believe out of the six Ohio schools. We are fifth.

Here's a list of the top recruits from Ohio:
https://247sports.com/Season/2024-Football/RecruitRanking...

The highest rated G5 recruits are #50 and #52, both of whom chose Marshall. The highest MAC recruit is #57, Jasen Kelly, who chose Ohio. Ohio also has recruit #115. Ohio didn't get the most recruits, but they may have the best one.

Ohio may yet end up with more than the current 2 in state recruits. They still has open offers to many players on this list who have yet to commit:
#35, #42, #60, #74, #77, #96, #135

What do you mean? Isphording is from Cincinnati and has good connections there. Has done a good job. Miami and Cincinnati getting better the last few years probably has more to do with Cincy kids not coming to OU than anything. That’s probably also why we’ve done so well in NE Ohio recently too with Kent and Akron down.

On paper this 2024 recruiting class seems to be one the better ones in a long time. Hoping for a few more surprises tomorrow.

DC, my point is there is a lot of football talent in Cincinnati. Enough for Cincinnati and Miami and OU. Athens is only a little over two hours from the eastern suburbs and less than 3 hours from my house on the west side. We have some Cincinnati kids, we could have more!

That makes sense. There was a day when I felt like our entire LB group was from Cincy. Dorsa, Popp, McCrory, and Kyle Kelly if you count NKY, etc. Good players.

At least one or two could be a preferred walk on.

Last post in Ohle's thread says he is a walk-on.

There is a glaring lack of quarterback in this class.

Ken Seals from Vandy was one of the only transfer QB’s to visit I think. Maybe we’re waiting until signing day to see who else wants to leave after the youngins sign.

Seals had a QB rating of 130 despite a dismal (by SEC standards) O-line.

And unlike a certain basketball player I won't name... he will pass his classes.

19/29 201 yds and 2 tds vs Georgia and I like his highlights. Seems to be a solid passer and he can take off when needed. It’ll be a huge miss if we don’t get him. No offense to CJ but he makes me nervous as soon as he puts his helmet on.

Agreed, especially considering that Ohio lost 2 of their top 3 QBs (Rourke to the portal and Harris to unknown health issue). I expect we will see increased emphasis on securing a Freshman or 2, and a transfer or two between now and the February signing date.

It's interesting to see how hard some schools were hit by the portal. Vandy lost their top three QBs to the portal (Swann to LSU, Seals to ???, and Taylor to Colorado), but they responded by adding two Freshmen and two transfers in (Berlowitz from NMSU and Johnson from Utah). Oregon State lost their top 2 QBs to the portal, but only added one Freshman, and so far, none from the portal, so I presume they are still looking.
