Landing Lewis (OSU) would be big.....but also if his teammate DB Smith (Indiana) signs then counting verbal OL Gibbons (Memphis) we'll have 3 BCS decommits in this class....when if ever has that happened?

Bill Greene just posted an article, with quotes from Lewis, stating that Lewis will visit Ohio and BG. Greene has stated in the past, however, that recruiting articles are mostly BS because kids know how to manipulate the message.

Days before posting the article, Bill Greene said, "I was told minutes ago by someone who should know that Roger is being encouraged to attend prep school and OSU will honor his commitment next year."

Yesterday, Greene suddenly wrote, "Hello Ohio University..............................."

Then, right after the above post, he released the article with the Lewis quotes.

It says a lot that both Ohio State "insiders" on the Scout network are still saying Lewis is a stud and was a legitimate player in Ohio State's class. Both have mentioned previously that a handful of Ohio State's commitments (unnamed) are only in the class because they committed to Fickell during the turmoil.

Not a bad high school to continue pulling players from either, especially since Meyer is likely to do more national recruiting in the future.

Gibbons had BCS offers but Memphis is not BCS.

Scout is reporting that CB Diamonte Wiggins will visit this weekend. He's a 6-3, 175-pounder out of Lynwood (CA) High School. He's showing offers from Washington St., Boise St., New Mexico and Eastern Washington. But it looks like his only two visits will be Eastern Washington and Ohio.

Lewis had just gotten that '4 star' 1-2 weeks ago from Rivals. He isn't one of those guys that are being kept on because he comitted during the turmoil, he has legit talent. So he would be a HUGE get. On the Ohio State boards I read (not Scout) Lewis has been rumored to be a question mark for grades for the longest time.

The way those recruiting sites work, if he signs with Ohio, he'll probably drop back to a 3-star.

His teammate who is supposedly visiting with him (Smith-DB) also has the same rumors.

more from Greene:

The MAC can take non-qualifiers..............

Ohio University will let Roger enroll even if he does not qualify, which he probably won't.

OSU said Fork Union was only option. Roger doesn't want that..............and wants to sign Wednesday.

Three-star de-commit.

In the seven years I have been tracking Ohio recruits, usually 4-6 recruits a year are rated up after verballing to Ohio, and I can't ever document a case of a recruit having their rating lowered. I haven't been tracking it as closely the last couple years, though. I attribute the rating changes to updates related to their Senior year performance, not who they signed with, and since Ohio generally identifies under-rated players, it perhaps isn't surprising that many put in strong Senior years.

you would have to think the two best weekends to have a recruit come in are on a weekend when you beat Marshall or the very last weekend before signing day - lets hope we pull off something huge...

That's what it seems to be shaping up to be......however strange things happen and the mystery of the number of schollies might damper it just a tad.....but it already looks huge.....I'm waiting for humongous.

Maybe that's true. I don't pay too much attention to it, but from what I do, it seems to work the other way around. Once a recruit signs with a major team, it seems that the status is sometimes elevated shortly thereafter. I was being sarcastic in saying that they would drop his rating based on signing with Ohio. Either way, it doesn't matter much what he's rated. He seems like a major player and I hope he signs here, even if he is not eligible to play his first year.

So what is the deal here? If we land the big fish from Pickerington, will he be able to play or does he have to sit out a year?

As I explained to someone else, I think what happens is that when someone is recruited by a major team, someone looks at their film then and there, to double check the rating. The 2-star guys tend to just sit out there, and not get reviewed at all, or reviewed belatedly. Sometimes they get reviewed towards the end of the season, sometimes not. That explains the 4-5 that get upgraded, usually late in the season. It also explains why a lot of the ones that don't get reviews updated are really better than a 2-star when they get here.

Paul, my guess is that he will take the SAT again. If he passes, he plays. In not, he can't.

What role would a summer or spring enrollment (with good grades for those terms) have on qualifying/non-qualifying status?

Nice progress for us to be seen as a viable option for the top players.  Even if we don't land a 'fish,' this says a lot about who we are now.

Yes and I would rather be program that is half based around top tier MAC level talent and half based around BCS level guys than have top MAC tier, half FCS level like the other schools in the conference are doing. I honestly believe this staff is determined not to wast scholarships to fill out the ranks. Most MAC schools will take their 2nd or 3rd choices instate if they can't get the top level MAC guy in the hopes of redshirting them down the road. Most recruiting classes in the MAC are now filled out by December but with all true fresh and some of the genuine 2 star variety.
