247Sports is reporting this new verbal for the Bobcats, and has him rated at 79, a very high 2-star rating

6-2, 192, 4.82 Forty, Safety, per ESPN.
not rated

6-1, 193 WR, per rivals, not rated, offers from BG, U. Mass, MTSU, and Ga. Southern

6-1, 185 WR per Scout

Junior Season Highlights

The highlights all show him at WR, so I'm guessing that's the plan. He runs crisp routes, and uses his height to take the ball away in traffic. The best thing about it - he's a very good blocker. That will get him on the field early at Ohio. Many times high school WRs are a little shy about blocking, and have to learn to appreciate the importance of blocking.

Per one website, he apparently was hoping for a USF offer, but I guess it didn't come. I presume he decided to snag a place in Ohio's rapidly filling class before they are all gone.

I am sure he will likely end up at WR, but it would be nice to have a big guy like this patrolling the secondary

Sounds like some good recruiting by Ohio.  I like Derrick's connection with several players on our team.

Does anyone else think it's a strange that he's going to take his official visits to three other schools despite this "solid" verbal to Ohio?

Article also says he spoke with incoming WR Chris Murray, who was part of 2012 class, but didnt qualify. Wonder if he is on schedule to come to Athens after this season from whatever JC he is at.

That stood out to me, too. I think it's awesome to hear that Murray will likely be back. I think if he does come, he'll have 3 to play 3.

As for taking all his trips, I agree that isn't a "solid" verbal, but I'll take a soft one.

Recruits are always encouraged to take advantage of their official visits. I mean its basically a free vacation for most of them.

Can we recruit his QB too? Nice touch on a lot of those deep throws. Ingram didn't have to do a lot of work to pull them in.

on rivals, Western M has 21 recruits including 1 4 star and 7 3 star recruits. BGSU and Balls have more as well. I'm guessing those numbers don't even include all the actual verbals. We are way behind in numbers compared to some while some teams only have 2-3 recruits. Go figure.

This article has some interesting comments in terms of TV exposure:

Ted, that article also makes his verbal sound very solid.

If he was part of the 2012 class, wouldn't he have 4 to play 4 (if he redshirted) or 4 to play 3 (if he did not)?

For Murray and Clark, the schedule is:

2012 - Redshirt (they did)
2013 (this fall) - Play in Juco (they will)
2014, 2015, 2016 - Play for Ohio (we hope).

Of course, if he has a really outstanding season this fall, he could get some other offers, and Ohio will have another recruiting battle to win.

You are right. I (for some reason) was thinking he was coming here this fall......not sure why I thought that.  My mistake!

Hey, we all make mistakes. If you browse around, somewhere around here I posted my own error, which was in the opposite direction. I thought they (Clark, Murry) might return in the recruiting class after this one. Nope. If they re-appear as recruits, it will be in this recruiting class.

While kids decommitt all the time, I hope this is not a result of all the negative social media he is reading and/or the sorry on-field performance. Being able to watch the product on the field nationally can also hurt. I don't think common sense would lead itself to any other conclusion.

I wonder if the Greg Windham/Larenzo Fisher ordeal had something to do with it. I believe he knows Greg personally.

I think it said early on that USF was where he really wanted to go, but he didn't have an offer from them. Maybe he just got one. Also, know knows what impact the problems of his friend Windham had on his decision. Does anyone know if Windham will be joining the program, and if so, when? Now that his legal problems are cleared up, there wouldn't seem to be any reason he can't.

He took an Official Visit to Temple according to 247sports.com. The "Crystal Ball" on that website predicts him to commit to Temple as well. Interesting

Frank said at a Caravan  a couple back something to the effect of the difficulty of getting a young recruit to be excited about spending 4-5 years in Athens, Ohio.  That would mean that a number of these young recruits prefer the limelight of a larger metropolis.

So my question is this, Ohio and Indiana have had powerhouse basketball teams, a sport that you only need to get two or three kids per recruiting season to buy in to the Athens/Bloomington scenes.  But in football you must get 18-20 each year. (Some prefer the small town so these programs would already have the leg up with those recruits) While the Bobcats in the Solich era have discontinued being the doormat, both these football programs have little history of success.  Does a lot have to do with where the two programs are located?

Small town Oxford; Miami had glory years but they are very close to Cincy and perhaps that was enough for some; Ames, Iowa is no metropolis but like Ann Arbor, Muncie, and Akron there is enough city life to satisfy.

Mt. Pleasant would be evidence against the question while Kent would be on the Athens and Bloomington side of the equation.  EMU would also be slightly negative to the theory as they are more a metro campus and have had IU like results in  their conference.
