and of course, it is time for my rant about the word "commitment." The word commitment should not be used. When these kids say they are committing, they are in actuality only stating a preference at a given moment. The very fact that these commitments are NOT BINDING further calls into question the use of the word...

Since he's going to Northwestern rather than Ohio, 247Sports bumps his rating from 81 to 84. Considering that this follows dropping Maxwell Howell from 88 to 72 when he chose Ohio, it's going to be very hard for me to take 247Sports seriously in the future.
247Sports also increased Burrow's rating after he picked Ohio State.

FWIW, in about 8 years of following it, the only other time I've seen a rating changed when someone picked Ohio, or left Ohio, was when a guy that was listed by the services as a QB was committed to Ohio as a Safety, then was recruited by Nebraska and Ohio State, and ended up at Ohio State (where he seldom played). The services all re-evaluated him as a Saftey, and moved him from a 2-star QB to a 3-star Safety, which I understood.

247Sports started out well, and seemed to be trying hard, but since their ratings depend on what school a kid picks, they obviously have no value.

Actually that is not true. Joe committed in May/June, and 247 sports re-evaluated his "star" this past week, after his senior season and his performance in the All-Star game practice and competition part, he earned his, if they were going to give him a "bump" based on his OSU commitment then they would have done so when he committed.

Disappointed we will miss out on this kid but I don't view this as a crushing loss to this recruiting class.

This is still the best class we have ever had under Frank IMO and RB is a position we could afford to lose a guy at. The hurt from losing both Williams and Fair was made up by picking up Christian. Christian wasn't a kid who was waiting for a scholarship to open at Ohio. He was one of our highest targets. We got some players coming in...

This was the first re-evaluation they did since his commitment. Perhaps they still would have raised his rating some had he picked Ohio or another MAC school, but I bet part of his rating increase was due entirely because he's going to Ohio State.

I wish Trae the best. Great school and I think he would have been a DB for us had he stayed with OHIO.

Something tells me he may be in slightly over his head in the Big 10. Physicality is my concern

but I would never judge a players desire to play at a higher level. I am sure he will never regret

the decision to pursue a degree from Northwestern.

Since he's going to the B1G, he must be better, so Rivals bumps Trae to 3 stars.
